Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittany Young. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brittany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Looking back, what’s an important lesson you learned at a prior job
This is my favorite question because it can be asked 100 times and 100 different ways and I will always say that the most important lessons my job has taught me are; Punctuality and the importance of great customer service.
I’ve been working in Corporate America for 15 years now and customer service since I was 16 years old!
This particular company has a very serious and strict attendance policy from day one. You cannot be late nor can you miss days at a time. When I first started working for them I did not have a car so my grandma would have to drop me off everyday. One day i was so late and almost lost my job. I was reprimanded and written up that made me so sad because this job was amazing and I had so much growth potential I just could not risk it. I was never late again after that. I’ve been with this company now for 15 years and have grown so much. This has taught me to show up for my business in every way! I take punctuality serious in my response to my customers and when it comes to shipping out orders!
On the other side of this I’ve also learned valuable lessons in customer service! I’ve learned the value in effectively communicating with my customers, vendors and also other business owners.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Brittany Dieon and I am a mother and business woman! I own a Natural Hair Product company by the name of SEICAH Naturals! I also own a Graphics and Branding company by the name of Corporate Bae Enterprises which I recently took a step back during my pregnancy.
I created SEICAH Naturals because I saw the need to lessen my natural haircare load. I was the ultimate product junky. I’m talking hundreds of dollar worth of products. I formulated my natural product line with efficiency and affordability in mind.
My product line ranges from wash day essentials like Shampoos and Conditioners to styling products and accessories like detangling brushes to hair bonnets!
What sets me apart is also the same thing I am most proud of and thats my brands’ customer service! I pride myself on having exceptional customer service practices! My customers know that I don’t play when it comes to my customer service and getting their products to them in a timely fashion! I love hearing or seeing my customers talk about how quickly they got their orders or how responsive I am to their questions or concerns. I really love my customers!
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
When starting my business I utilized funds that I had saved up from my Corporate job. After learning about business credit I began leveraging my credit to continue to build.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to unlearn was not asking for help. Running businesses can be exhausting when you’re the sole member. I struggled with doing too much and not asking for help. I am started getting burned out and realized I don’t have to be. I engaged one of my mentors when I was frustrated and she said “Brittany you are doing way too much you need to build a small team.” Today I am operating with a small online team and my son helps me pack orders!
