We recently connected with Brittany Woodall and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
When it came to learning this craft, it took countless YouTube videos. Thousands of dollars and a lot of mistakes to get to where I am. My resilience and desire to keep going and becoming one of the best kept me a float. I knew I had a love for hair but makeup opened an entire different world for me and I knew I wanted to pour my all into that. Things got hard for sure but with prayer family and God I prevailed over it all and I’m greatful though good and bad.
Brittany, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Brittany but I go by Nilla. Growing up I was always into fashion and anything beauty. I would cut up clothing and the hair from the dolls heads to give the the looks I had inspired in my head. Until I got into cosmetology school, that’s how I found my love for makeup. When I was homeless and no one to turn to my brushes and YouTube videos was all I had. When things got hard I knew creating makeup content would lift my spirits. The only challenges I faced was how to get better. The best advice would be to focus and enjoy your own journey, you don’t wanna miss the small victories. My proudest moment was making a name for myself on my social media platforms and staying consistent.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
The best advice I can give is to stay consistent even in the hardest of times. Most importantly to always remember why you started it will motivate you at all times. The best way to grow social media presence is to always interact with commenters and people who just overall wanna support you your brand and business. Reach out to small companies they are quicker to work with you on brand deals.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The mission for me is to become world wide. To share and inspire young girls and motivate them. That if I can overcome the impossible just a young black girl from south Memphis with dreams so can they. From the start I knew I wanted to work with celebrities and amount the stars so for the stars I’m continuing to shoot.
