Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittany Wolf. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made (either in terms of time or money)? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
Hands down, the best investment I’ve ever made in my business was actually an investment I made in myself – hiring a business coach that I trust! While I’m all about leaning into your support system, being a small business owner can be incredibly lonely when no one else is in the weeds with you. Learning from someone who I felt cared about my success and wasn’t just selling products gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams.
Why should I be spinning my wheels, when there’s a community of people who choose to be vulnerable enough to share their mistakes so I don’t have to repeat them? Working with my wholesale coach reminded me how much I love learning and need to surround myself with others who are serious about community over competition. It’s incredibly inspiring to hear that your heroes have their own challenges and mentors–you truly feel like you’re all in it together, and it reaffirms there’s nothing more important than investing in your own growth and happiness.
Brittany, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Brittany and I’m the sheEO and designer behind SHEWOLF Designs, a witty, bold, and femme powered gift brand that celebrates living unapologetically. Choosing to live your authentic life out loud can be scary and isolating, so my products are about bringing people together—usually over a laugh or well-placed curse word.
I started SHEWOLF in 2022 because I couldn’t find stickers that truly felt like me. One year later, I’m proud to have my products in 35+ stores worldwide and am determined to help people everywhere feel seen.
My brand is all about being yourself regardless of others’ opinions. I know that’s not a possibility (yet!) for many people, which is why SHEWOLF donates to organizations that are fighting to make it a reality for all. Thanks to my customers, my designs can stand for something and support a more inclusive world.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Support local everything when you can! It doesn’t mean avoiding big box stores completely, but it does require a mindset shift and more balanced approach to spending.
A lot of big retailers carry products by local artists and makers, so when you find something you love, check out the artist’s website first. Buying direct fosters an encouraging environment that allows us to take risks and experiment with our craft, supports our livelihoods, and allows us to invest in our local communities.
That said, support doesn’t always mean spending money. If there’s nothing more you trust than a good review or your friends’ opinions, think of all the other people who feel the same way. Word of mouth is queen, and sharing about products or artists you love is a free and incredibly powerful way to help creatives expand their reach.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Growing up, I was taught that success meant going to college and working a 9-to-5 grind. I wasn’t encouraged to be risky or dream big, and so I sacrificed my creativity and passions in the pursuit of success through someone else’s eyes. I did what was expected of me and now sit with an unused science degree.
Before starting SHEWOLF, I didn’t know it was possible to love what I do–I didn’t know being my own boss was even an option. My life has become much more fulfilling since discovering that I can be my own boss and that I’m allowed to live my life working towards my dreams, rather than someone else’s.
It might be impossible to unlearn the generational and societal expectations I grew up with, but I’m excited to embrace me and live unapologetically.
