We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brittany Windham. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brittany below.
Alright, Brittany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Through my work in boudoir, women of all ages get to see themselves with a new perspective. Many clients arrive at my sessions with a sense of nervousness. During the hours of my shoot, I watch my clients transform. The anxiety dissipates, and empowerment emerges. My work behind the camera is but a tool to show them what I and those that love them already see, a strong and beautiful woman. Empowering women is the greatest passion of my life, and to be able to combine that with my photography is a dream come true. I am honored by the amount of trust my clients provide to me, and I am so excited to continue to have a positive influence on more women for years to come. Many clients initially book Boudoir by Brittany with the purpose of gifting the photographs to their partner for weddings, anniversaries, etc. By the time of their “reveal,” a session I host with each client to share their completed photos, the purpose of the boudoir session has changed. They end up realizing the shoot transformed their confidence, and makes them feel so beautiful in their own skin. I hope my clients leave my sessions with not only beautiful photographs, but with a perspective of just how much beauty and strength lies within.

Brittany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello, I’m Brittany Windham, a 33 year photographer in Dothan, AL specializing in boudoir & lifestyle photography. Since I can remember, I’ve always had a camera in my hand. From childhood memories with friends, to babysitting family members, I’ve always wanted to capture memories of those around me. When my daughter was born in 2016, I wanted to take better quality photos of her, and that’s where my education for professional photography began. For many years, I focused my work on weddings and lifestyle. Word spread quickly in my community, and my business took flight. In 2018 a bridal client asked for a boudoir session. A novice to photographing that style, I took on the challenge, noticed the immediate change in her confidence, and the rest is history. Boudoir by Brittany was born &.
I initially transformed my garage into a studio space, but as client requests continued to flood in, I realized I would soon need an official studio space to meet the needs of my clientele. The stars aligned, and Studio 280 on Foster Street was born. While I continue to work for brands, families, and business professionals, my specialty belongs to boudoir, as it is my passion and creative outlet that has fulfilled me the most.
One might guess with the south having a more conservative leaning culture, boudoir photography might not be a product many are seeking. This is not the case. Women from across the southeast have found deep fulfillment in my photoshoots, seeing through my photography the power in their divine feminine. For many clients, I’m their first boudoir photographer to work with, and I don’t take that responsibility lightly. I didn’t get my nickname “Professional Hype Girl” by accident. I work hand in hand with each individual client to feel both safe and powerful during what can be a very intimate photography session.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
It’s so rewarding when I see the confidence women gain at our boudoir sessions. Our society markets so heavily on our insecurities, with a revolving door of products and procedures that claim to offer solutions. I see the beauty and strength that my clients already possess. Through both our photography session, and the resulting images, they are guided to see that beauty in themselves as well. An empowered woman knows she already has everything she needs, there is no need to seek validation outside of herself. My studio is an empowerment factory. So many women have the habit of putting others before themselves. When clients enter the Boudoir by Brittany studio, their needs and wants are all that matters. With my guidance and creativity, they have the opportunity to exercise their right to speak up for what they want. After their session, clients are on cloud nine, and want all the women they know to feel the same way. Helping women see their beauty, and become more comfortable in their power is what I’m most proud of.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
In the years leading up to being a boudoir photographer, I’ve always had jobs that catered to the needs of women. Many of my initial boudoir clients were women whom I’ve previously assisted by way of makeup, skincare, or lifestyle photography. I’ve had a strong online following that supported me through Instagram and Facebook, but the majority of my clientele base has grown through word of mouth. Women in the south love connection and community. Once a client has a great experience with a boudoir session, she wants to share all about it with her girlfriends. Life in a small town is very special in that way. It makes my work feel less like a job, and more like a community driven purpose. Word of mouth recommendations help to validate I’m on the right path.
