We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Wilson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Brittany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?

Starting Lucky Locks Indy was a huge risk for me. I had recently returned to living in the city but everything felt brand new for me. I needed a fresh start and something different. When I found Lucky Locks, I knew this was it! Getting hair sparkles was something that brought so much joy and confidence to me and I wanted to share that with others. I was very worried about how to manage running the business on top of my full time job. It has definitely been a challenge but developing my brand and using my creativity to marketing and networking has been so fulfilling for me and I am so glad I took the leap!

Brittany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I found Lucky Locks in 2017 when I was a teacher in Oregon. One of my Special Education co-teachers had something shiny in her hair that I would notice when the light or sun caught it just right. I asked her, “what is that sparkly stuff in your hair?” From that day on, I was hooked. I couldn’t stop getting more and more sparkles in my hair! I became friends with the owner of Lucky Locks, Sarah, and she was such an inspiration for me from the very beginning.

As time went on, people started noticing my hair sparkles everywhere- at my school, at the grocery store, walking my dog at the park- you name it! People would ask “is your hair sparkly?” and say nice things like “that’s so cool!” and “you look gorgeous with them!” I had always struggled with my self esteem but these compliments really started to become a huge confidence boost for me!

I knew once I moved back home to my roots in Indiana that I couldn’t stop my love for hair sparkles. After all, Lucky Locks silk sparkles are heat and color resistant! I could curl or flat iron my hair and get my hair done at the salon without any damage to my sparkles. I was able to stop bleaching my hair, let my natural brown take over, and let my sparkles shine! ~and~ Since our sparkles are carefully tied to a single strand of hair, they were lasting so long! I was shocked when I found the same sparkles in my hair after months!

A little over two years ago in Summer 2022, I decided to become a mobile sparkle partner with Lucky Locks! It has taken some time to develop the professional craft of installing our fine silk hair sparkles. But I have enjoyed every moment of bringing these high quality hair sparkles to my community so that I can help others build their confidence too. The smile I see on my customers when I am finished installing their sparkles has truly helped fill my cup when I have needed it most. <3

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

Craft shows and vendor markets! I love joining other small business owners and unique handmade vendors to join forces to bring our community unique products and services.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?

I have been so lucky to be a part of a “sparkler” group with Lucky Locks (a “sparkler” being a human, not the product.) We are in cities all across the US, even in some other countries! Learning from the other sparkle ladies has been such a unique and valuable experience as I’ve developed my craft and my small business. We have consistent brand loyalty which has created a vision of a high quality product that far exceeds the chunky, plastic hair tinsel out there.

Our goal was to present to the people a dainty, classy version of what was commonly known.
