We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Whatley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brittany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think success is measured differently by everyone. For me success means that I’ve made a positive impact and am able to continue my services after 17 years. I think my life story will contribute to how I developed my view on success. Everyone has endured some type of hardship in their life whether that’s by happen chance, people that you come across , or just a lack of knowledge. I’m a testament to pushing forward when forward wasn’t clear.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve been in the beauty industry for 17 years. Starting out with a love to create life events curated it into serving women in less who found themselves in not so ideal situations to help make them feel their beauty. From there I wanted to continue in the industry that saved and helped me grow. Weddings appealed to me for the pure joy I would get to experience with new people continuously. To be able to be the team they would first experience on their big day, that sets the tone is not something we take lightly. We pour ourselves into our clients and we have been on the receiving end as well! To be able to experience such intimates moments with our clients is something we hold dear and never take advantage of.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Networking and close relationships for sure. Being originally from a small town, being kind is something people look for when working with you. Discernment is another, knowing what works for you, and what relationships you want to pour into matters. To be kind is not for receiving it’s for giving, and people recognize that and become inspired.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Show up for them. They have needs that are realistic? Meet them. If they’re not realistic? Be honest. Imagine who you would want to work for or even whom you’ve worked for yourself in the past and use that as motivation to create an atmosphere that isn’t comparable. You are the only you, and your team relies on that. If you’re proud of you, continue. If not reevaluate, and see how to become someone you’d be proud working for.
