Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Webb
Hi Brittany, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey to owning a private mental health group practice has been nothing short of transformative, and it’s a path I would walk over and over again. The idea of starting my practice was planted long before its official creation in June 2022. However, it wasn’t until October of that year that I truly committed myself to building it from the ground up.
My previous role to starting my practice was in mental health tech, which was a turning point, one if many. As I reflected on my career, I recognized a recurring theme of dissatisfaction—whether it was the instability of promised hours, unclear directives, or an unsupportive work culture. These experiences left me feeling frustrated and burnt out, both professionally and personally. Despite always having the idea of private practice in the back of my mind since graduate school, fear held me back from taking the leap.
That’s when I decided to shift my mindset from ‘thinking’ to ‘doing,’ and I haven’t looked back since. Creating a work environment that supports not only my well-being but also the well-being of my team has become my driving force. As a therapist, I know how crucial it is to feel supported in order to provide quality care. This philosophy is at the heart of my practice—fostering a nurturing space where both clients and clinicians can thrive. Client care is paramount in our field, and I’m proud to build a practice that prioritizes this above all else.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to building my private mental health group practice has been anything but smooth, but also not entirely rough, it’s the challenges that have shaped me into the therapist and business owner I am today. Transitioning from the salaried employment opportunities to venturing into private practice was daunting. I faced the uncertainty of stepping into the unknown, with no guarantee of success and a lot of self-doubt along the way.
One of the biggest struggles was navigating the complexities of business management while ensuring I remained focused on my passion—providing quality mental health care. After all, I went to graduate school to become a therapist, there were no business courses in my program. Balancing the dual roles of therapist and business owner required a steep learning curve. From dealing with the intricacies of insurance reimbursements to understanding how to create a supportive work culture, there were times I felt overwhelmed.
Another significant hurdle was overcoming the initial fear of failure. Private practice had always been a dream, but making it a reality meant facing that fear head-on. I had to learn to trust myself and my vision, even when the path wasn’t clear. Building a practice where both clients and therapists feel supported is deeply important to me, and it’s what kept me pushing forward, even on the toughest days.
Through it all, I’ve learned that the struggles are where growth happens. They’ve taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of staying true to my values. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but it’s one I wouldn’t trade for anything.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk-taking is an integral part of any journey, especially when it comes to building something meaningful like I did others and me, Better Minds Counseling & Services. For me, the biggest risk I ever took was leaving the security of a stable job in mental health tech to pursue my dream of starting a private practice. It was a leap into the unknown, filled with uncertainty and self-doubt. But I’ve always believed that growth happens when we step outside our comfort zones, and this was my chance to do just that.
I don’t necessarily see myself as a natural risk-taker, but I do see the value in taking calculated risks, especially when they align with my values and long-term goals. The decision to start my own practice was driven by a deep desire to create a space where both clients and therapists could thrive. I knew there were risks involved—financial instability, the pressure of entrepreneurship, and the fear of failure—but I also knew that staying where I was, feeling unfulfilled, was a risk in itself.
One of the most significant risks I took was betting on my vision of what mental health care can be. I wanted to build a practice that prioritized the well-being of both clients and clinicians, something that wasn’t always present in my previous experiences. The risk paid off, but not without its challenges. Every step of the way, I had to weigh the potential downsides against the possibility of creating something truly impactful.
I’ve learned that risk-taking doesn’t have to mean reckless decisions. It’s about being strategic, trusting your instincts, and believing in your vision, even when the path isn’t entirely clear. Taking risks has allowed me to grow, both personally and professionally, and it’s a mindset I encourage in others. Sometimes, the greatest rewards come from the risks we were once too afraid to take. You just don’t know until you take a leap (no matter how big or small that leap is!)
