We recently connected with Brittany Walker and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany , thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I started Creations By Brittany formally known as “Custom Creations By Brittany” in 2017, not to soon after I had my daughter. The back story behind it is something I hope with inspire others to step out on faith and follow their dreams. I was working at a company at the time of my pregnancy when my doctor explained that the kind of work I was doing was no longer healthy for me and my unborn child. After many discussions with my superiors about creating a more healthier environment for me, we finally settled on a position that would be created just for me. Or so I thought. I’ll never forget those words spoken to me when questioned about my new position. Adapt or leave. In that moment I knew that what I was about to do would be the biggest leap of faith I’d ever taken. I left. Seven months pregnant, not a single idea about what was next. I’ve always been a creative person, from singing to writing music and poetry. I’ve even written a play (Only a few know about that). While taking this time away from the workforce I dug deep into my spirtuality and really asked for clarity on what to do next. One day while in the craft store I picked up a coffee mug and had this crazy idea to paint it. I’d never painted a day in my life. Before I knew it I had about 10 hand painted mugs, some with beautiful encouraging messages and others with designs I’ve never knew I could make! This was the birth of something I did not know would be my passion. I wanted to make extra money, after all I was a stay at home mom now. But the outpour of love and support I received made me question “I wonder if this could really be something.
Fast forward to present day and my business is thriving! I am now an LLC and I produce for several local businesses and brands. Had I not taken that leap of faith who knows where I’d be right now. The scripture says “Walk by Faith and not by Sight” that can be scary, but I encourage anyone with a dream, a goal ANYTHING to take my word for it.
Often times we sell ourselves short believing what we dream is to big of a dream, or it’s unattainable, but with hard work and dedication you can acheive anything! As this company grows my goal is to be able to provide avenues for other creators like myself to collaborate. I’m most excited about how far I have come and how far I will go! Creations By Brittany will be nationally known, I believe in naming it and claiming!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I love to see people smile. This line of business really makes that happen for me. The goal is to create something for my customers they could never purchase at a store. While I have expanded to much more than coffee mugs, they will always be my first love! These days I offer Custom Canvas art for events, (such as paint parties) custom tote bags, sweaters, tumblers and my best sellers, T-SHIRTS! The keyword is custom, no two items are ever the exact same, and that’s what makes this business stand out. I believe what sets me apart from others is the fact that I love what I do to a level I can’t even describe. Creating is a stress reliever for me, and I’m also making others happy. It’s a win win for me! I think one thing that really makes Creations by Brittany stand out is how willing I am to make sure my customer gets exactly what they want, and once it is complete, I get to take part in their excitement because I am genuinely happy that they are happy! Customer satisfaction is a huge priority to me and I always make sure to go the extra mile to accommodate my customers needs.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing clientele has been getting out here and networking! I also get creative with how I market my items. For example my daughter is 7 now and in the second grade. She has become my walking billboard. Shes my little business partner and we have a mutual agreement lol. When I go out to networking events I’m almost always wearing something I created, carrying a bag I’ve designed. Or simply wear a short with my logo and website on it. It’s always important to keep business cards on you as well. Just the other day I was in the grocery store and I overheard two gentlemen discussing what to get their wives for Christmas. I politely introduced myself and told them what my Business does. I now the the opportunity to create something beautiful for the women in their lives.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media can be quite tricky from time to time. The algorithm for everyone is different. I’ve come to realize that yes, a picture does say a thousand words but a video or a reel with a cool song says a million words! So I’ve had to get creative with social media. You want to pick sounds or songs that are trending, so that you can trend to. Word of mouth is always awesome promotion but social media is where it is at. That is how I got my first out of state purchase back when I first started.
