Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittany Trice. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Brittany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Growing up, my mother and sister were always in the beauty industry. They are both hair stylists. Once I graduated from high school, my mom and sister told me that I should go to Cosmetology school as well. I decided that that was not the path that I wanted to pursue at the time. I decided to take the path of pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. I thought I wanted to be a psychologist but once I graduated and couldn’t find a job in that field I decided to pursue my Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources.
I am now a career woman. I have been working in Human Resources for almost 8 years now.
What brought me into the creative/makeup artistry world? I haven’t always been extremely confident in my own looks. For most of my life, I was overweight and worried about what others had to say about me because of my weight. At my highest weight, I was 363 pounds. I’d tried everything (diet pills, fasting, exercise, etc.) to lose the weight but to no avail. I ended up having an accident in 2015 which altered my ability to work out. I was diagnosed with sacroiliitis and nerve damage which also caused me to get sciatica. I was in pain so much that I wasn’t really able to work out like I wanted to. The doctor put me on steroid shots which made it even harder to lose weight and contributed to my weight gain. I’ll tell more about how I landed in makeup artistry and content creation in more detail later.
I’ve been in business for a bit over 2 years now and I love every minute of what I do. I am not a full time makeup artist at this time but would love to work for myself in that arena some day. I love seeing the smiling faces and sometimes even the tears of some of my clients who have not seen themselves in that light.
If I had started sooner, I believe that I would already be working for myself full time and doing what I am passionate about. In the short time I have touched the lives of soooo many and I’m forever grateful for every opportunity that has crossed my path.

Brittany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a mom of 2 beautiful boys. They come first always. I am a Human Resources Information Systems Analyst for HCA Healthcare, the owner of Da’Nay Beauty (makeup business), and a social media content creator.
Let me give a little back story on how I started my business… One day I got tired of it and made the best decision ever and decided to look into weight loss surgery. On February 25, 2019, I underwent a weight-loss surgery called Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG for short). I have since gone from 363 pounds to 245 pounds. At my lowest weight, I was 231 pounds. Every day is still a struggle but I continue to press for what I want.
Now, let’s get back to the how I landed in the artistic space and why I decided to start Da’Nay Beauty. As I said, I was not always confident in my looks. As I watched myself transform, I began to gain more confidence. I would put on makeup just for fun and to just feel cute. My kids’ father would tell me, you should be a makeup artist but of course, I’d brush that off because I didn’t think I was that good at it.
I continued doing my makeup and researching different products and techniques on YouTube just for my own personal use. When COVID hit hard, my company decided to move us to fully remote work. At that time, I moved back to home to stay with my mom and stepdad home for a while. I still continued what I was doing with my own makeup.
One day someone asked me, “Do you do others’ makeup?” My immediate response was “No” because I was simply terrified to try. That person booked with me and for over 2 years I have been pushing Da’Nay Beauty. I have been able to enhance the beauty within others that they sometimes don’t even realize exists.
In relation to content creation, I create videos related to makeup, life as a mom, and really anything that is on my mind. I am a very vocal person and love to share my thoughts and ideas with the world. I started out just posting makeup videos the n my platform started to grow and grow. I have over 100K followers on Facebook, Over 95K on TikTok, and 70K on Instagram. The experience has been fun and mind blowing.

: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to really push my business and following to a higher level. I want to eventually work for myself and get paid for doing what I love.
My boys drive me to be the best version of me that I can be. I never want to see them have to struggle, so I always push for greatness even when my back is against the wall.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of makeup artistry is the end result. I’ve had many clients sit in my chair and when I show them the final results they’ll say “Is that really me?” Not only that… I have had women sit in my chair who were down and once we chatted and I done their makeup they left me with a different mindset. Knowing that my work has that type of impact on a person really keeps me going.
In relation to social media, the most rewarding part is knowing that I have people watching who are inspired by my weight loss journey, my growth in my business, my makeup artistry, etc. I have had people reach out to either encourage me to keep pushing when I’m not at my best or just to let me know how I’ve touched their lives. It’s just an amazing feeling.
