Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittany Todd. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Brittany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
In 2021 I was working a fulltime job while also running my business, I also just gave birth to my second child. I was given a huge opportunity to work fulltime for my business at a store front down-town columbus. It was just what I needed to expand Tee & Bee’s Baskets. Now the hard part was breaking away from a secure job, knowing it was guaranteed income, it had me going back and forth about the what if’s. After sitting down with my husband going over all the important details my husband was able to take care our home with me stepping away from my job. With running a business it may be days or longer you don’t get any sales, nothing is guaranteed.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
After my mother passed away at the end of October 2016, I was in a dark space for a while. Life seemed to be moving slowly. I would try to keep myself extremely busy (working 12–16-hour shifts, no days off) so I couldn’t think about the fact my mother, my best friend was no longer physically here. As time moved forward, I notice the extremely long hours were catching up to me. I started to work “normal” hours and having time off.
I began to feel all the emotions I was trying to escape from and bury. In this moment I knew it was time I had to face everything head-on, the hurt, sadness, undesirable pain, the why’s and the how am I supposed to live this “NEW” life without my mother. As the end of 2017 was approaching, I was sitting in my apartment. I said to myself “what am I going to do now” while looking around staring at my mother’s belongings, something click. The click was the start of Tee & Bee’s Baskets! Being so saddened and lost by my mother’s death I didn’t realize I had a lot of my mother’s business tools.
My mother was a businesswoman herself Tina’s House of Designs was the name of her business. From a young girl, my mother has taught/showed me all that I know. So, my business name represents my mother and I. Tee (Tina my mother) Bee (Brittany, myself) Baskets (my many talents) Although my mother isn’t physically here, my business keeps me spiritually connected to my mother.
I’m forever grateful for the phenomenal woman my mother was.
