We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Symone recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I am up with “Symone Protective Styles” by just taking my middle name and doing what I do which are protective styles and applying it all together . It just sound right to me and I could see it being displayed on things .
Brittany , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born and Raised and Shreveport La, I am a mother of 3 beautiful children and wife . I’ve always loved anything that had to do with the beauty industry. I’ve been braiding since I was about 9 or 10ish practicing on myself , my sisters , uncles etc. I was taught growing up that hair / beauty wasn’t really a legit career and that I would need to college in order to make the money I’ll need to make to enjoy life. I didn’t listen and I went to Cosmetology school lol . I continued to learn more about hair after that and studied my craft until I got better . Today I am still learning . Being a mother and starting my own business is the best thing I could have done . I really like to do a lot of things when it comes to doing hair but I mostly focus on the natural hair and protecting it by installing “Faux Locs” which are a protective by wrapping synthetic braiding hair around your hair to create a faux locs which are temporary loc extensions . They kind of resemble the real locs that people wear only the ones I create are temporary and can be taking out . Problems that I have solved for my customers are helping their hair grow. Feeling confident no matter what style the rock ! What set me aparts from others I believe is going beyond and carrying for my customers , when you book with me it’s not just about installing the locs but also gaining a relationship with them as well . I am most proud of me being able to create a style that the whole world is wearing and I don’t see it going away anytime soon which are the bob distressed locs or Starla Bob Locs some may call them different names but just seeing that I was able to create it and teach other stylist and watch them put their spin on in it , create an income for them and their families has made me so proud in this industry so far .
If you are someone interested in booking with me check out my Instagram at Symone Protective Styles I am a faux locs extensions specialist and natural hair care hairstylist located in Dallas Texas .

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social Media is changing everyday, the one thing I can say about being on social media is Consistency is Key . When I started to build my social media I would literally post everyday 3 times a day and I would post more videos than pictures because people like to watch more than just look at pictures all day . So that’s something if you’re just getting started create more pictures and no matter what craft is think of everything as content .

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Hair was my side hustle , I always wanted it to be my main but listening to other people tell me it was only a side kind of stirred me away . I had to stop listening to what people said and just believed that my side hustle could make me as much money as someone who may have had a higher paying job etc. I told myself that I was going to work hard and strive and prove to others that doing hair is not just a side hustle but this can also be career as well so if you are someone going into the hair / beauty industry go for it !
