We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brittany Scott . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brittany below.
Hi Brittany , thanks for joining us today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
To set the tone, I am a 30 year old Black women working in Clinical Research. Specifically, Contract & Budget Negotiations in Study Start Up which is responsible for getting Clinical Trials activated.
I believe the Research industry heavily underestimated the importance of proper job training and the value of transferrable skills.
Study Start Up is a part of Clinical Trials that always has a main goal of being quicker & more efficient. I believe this requires a level of nuance that someone with the proper set of transferable skills could positively impact and make better because they have an outside perspective. However the trend in Research is to only reach out to and hire people that have applicable research or science related experience.
I believe there is such a heavy reliance on hiring people with prior experience because there is not much focus on proper training for the job. Companies do not see the value in Investing ample time to properly train individuals . I feel like to major corporations the time it takes to dually train someone is seen as a loss in productivity time instead of a long term investment in employee moral and company performance.

Brittany , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have always been a prolific writer and had a knack for connecting people with their desires, combine the two and you have a Professional Development Strategist, that is “I”,Brittany Scott. I graduated from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2015 with a Bachelors of Science in Sociology. I quickly scaled the corporate ladder and love my career in Clinical Research Operations. I perfected the art of finessing my professional strengths, within the right career field and increased my income over 50% landing myself 6-figures before 30 years old! However, my true passion has always been developing people so I also continued to tutor, enhance resumes/cover letters, create templates/contracts, etc for people until I finally decided it was time to go legit, thus, BehancedByScott Professional Development Services, LLC was birthed. #RTPFinesseQueen
Have you ever had to pivot?
During the pandemic I had to shift my business model to completely be an online service because the pandemic made it unsafe to meet with clients in person. However shifting my business model helped me to pivot a lot of products to being sold online and allowing my customers to have instant access to their merchandise opposed to waiting for it to be shipped & delivered helping me to make more residual income .

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I learned is “Sometimes you have to slow down to speed up”.
However to learn this I had to unlearn hustle culture. I had to unlearn the idea that productivity was compromised of me being over-worked, spread too thin across multiple projects, tired, and unorganized but “busy”; and most importantly had to unlearn that “busy” does not equal productive all the time.
