Brittany, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?

For over ten years, I worked as a makeup artist on the side while juggling a full-time corporate job. I always loved the creative freedom that came with makeup artistry—the transformation, the confidence it gave people—but for years, it remained just a passion project. My “real job” was behind a desk. It felt stable, predictable, and safe… until it wasn’t.

At the end of 2023, I was laid off from my corporate position. As a single mom, it was terrifying. I was suddenly faced with a choice: find another desk job and continue down the same path, or take a chance on the dream I’d been quietly building for years. Deep down, I knew I didn’t want to go back to a job that didn’t fulfill me. So, I took the leap.

I decided to invest in myself and pursue permanent makeup training—something I had always wanted to do but never had the time or courage to try. It was a huge risk, especially while on unemployment, but I trusted my passion and my drive. That one decision completely changed my life’s direction.

What started as learning permanent makeup soon turned into enrolling in esthetician school. Within a year, I became a certified permanent makeup artist, a licensed esthetician, and connected with one of the best mentors and partners I could have asked for. I’m now proudly a booking option in her salon, working at a spa, running my own beauty business, and even balancing a full-time work-from-home job during the day.

Taking that risk pushed me out of my comfort zone and into a career I truly love. It reminded me that sometimes, losing what feels “safe” is exactly what you need to discover your purpose.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I’m Brittany Ross — a licensed esthetician, makeup artist, and certified permanent makeup artist with a deep passion for helping people feel confident and beautiful in their own skin. My journey into the beauty industry started over a decade ago as a freelance makeup artist. For years, I worked in the corporate world by day and transformed faces by night, driven purely by my love for artistry and the joy of seeing my clients light up when they looked in the mirror.

In 2023, after being laid off from my corporate job, I decided to take a leap of faith and fully commit to my dream. What began as a side hustle became my full-time passion. I enrolled in permanent makeup training, then esthetician school, and within a year, I became a licensed esthetician specializing in all things beauty and skin.

Today, through my brand Empowered Beauty+, I offer a full range of services including permanent makeup, event, special effects, and bridal makeup, lash lifts & tints, brow laminations & tints, waxing, facials, microneedling, and chemical peels. My goal is to enhance each client’s natural features while creating an experience that makes them feel relaxed, cared for, and confident long after they leave my chair.

What sets me apart is my attention to detail and my commitment to truly understanding my clients’ goals. Whether I’m mapping out the perfect brows, customizing a skincare plan, or creating a timeless bridal look, I approach each service with precision and care. I’ve built a reputation for creating results that look natural, polished, and personalized to each individual.

What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come—from taking a risk as a single mom on unemployment to now running my own business, working in a spa, collaborating with one of the best mentors in the industry, and building lasting relationships with my clients. Empowered Beauty+ isn’t just a name—it represents what I stand for: empowering people to look and feel their absolute best.

If there’s one thing I want people to know about me and my brand, it’s that everything I do comes from a place of passion, precision, and purpose. My clients aren’t just appointments—they’re part of my journey, and I’m honored to be part of theirs.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

Social media has been instrumental in helping me grow my brand and connect with clients who may not have discovered me otherwise. I’ve found that my makeup and special effects before-and-after transformations, along with creative TikTok’s and Instagram Reels, have been especially impactful in building my audience. People are drawn to seeing real results, transformations, and the artistry that goes into each look.

Consistency has played a major role in that growth. I make it a priority to document my work—always with my clients’ approval—and share it regularly. Capturing those moments not only showcases my skills but also builds trust and credibility with potential clients. Even when my schedule is full, I ensure I’m staying active online, whether through educational posts, behind-the-scenes clips, or showcasing new services.

For anyone just beginning to build their social media presence, my advice is to start with authenticity and consistency. Share your work with pride, highlight your process, and let your personality shine through. Growth takes time, but if you stay consistent, engage with your audience, and genuinely love what you do, your online presence will grow naturally and meaningfully.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

I believe my reputation within the beauty industry has been built on my ability to truly listen to my clients and understand what they’re looking for. Every client has a vision for how they want to look and feel, and taking the time to listen carefully allows me to deliver results that align perfectly with their expectations.

My signature style is soft glam—enhancing natural features while maintaining a fresh, effortless look. Whether I’m creating a bridal look, a special event glam, or permanent makeup, my goal is always the same: to bring out each client’s natural beauty without overdoing it. I think that balance of artistry and restraint is what has helped me stand out.

Clients trust me because they know I’ll take the time to get it right. I pride myself on attention to detail, customized results, and creating an overall experience that leaves my clients feeling confident, comfortable, and beautiful. Over time, that consistency and care have built lasting relationships and a strong reputation within my market.
