We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Richardson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
As a person who had just graduated back in December 2023. It was never recommended to go solo right after graduation and passing state board. It tends to be rough trying to gain clientele and also with multiple competition around you it’s important to stick out and sure your business is different from the others. My first plan was to go around and pass out flyers and business cards and get the word out that I am in business. In this world today it’s important to know how to use your social media. I decided to make an Facebook advertisement and that’s when I gained my first client. She found my AD on Facebook and decided to book with me. She was super nice and also was reminding me and making sure I get my before and after photos which warmed my heart because it showed she believed in my work just as much as I did. That was by far one of the best experiences and I will never forget her and she also told me she will definitely book again when she is back in town. She warmed my heart and that is one of the reasons why I go so hard and keep myself motivated to keep going because of my clients. People like her are truly a blessing.

Brittany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well prior I was selling clothing for plus size women and most people know me for selling my trendy clothing and bubbly personality. I decided to go a different direction and became a licensed esthetician. I have always had love for skin care and making people feel beautiful, confident, with a little sass. I get a thrill when I see the joy and happiness in clients face when they look into the mirror and watching them gain their confidence back makes me so happy. I understand the struggles of not feeling pretty because our skin doesn’t want to act right! The type of service that I provide is brow/lash tinting, brow lamination, lash lifting, facial services, waxing services. Problems that I solve for my clients and creating personalized skin care regimens that will keep their skin on track and manageable and in some cases until they see a dermatologist. I am here to educate and teach my clients what works best for their skin. I create at home care regimens to continue the process. It’s always about what you do at home to upkeep treatments. What sets me apart from other people in the industry is that I have a nurturing spirit, your able to rest your mind, body, and soul, and you can consider me your new “Esthi Bestie” we are friends now . Something that my clients and potential clients should know is that I’m ver transparent, I am a educator so I will educate you on the issues you are having with your skin.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When it comes to funding my business I still work a full time job to fund my business. I still continue to grow my clientele and I budget what I need to put up and put out. It’s not easy it took me at least 6 months before starting to budget out what I would need to save towards my business. I am still in great hopes for business grant approvals but I continue to work until my business is funding my lifestyle.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn is stop being scared to approach people about my business. I had to learn that staying confident within my business and knowing that I provide the best service. Allows people to gain trust that you know what you’re doing and that you speak proudly of what you do. Most people want someone who is confident in their work and passionate because it ensures that they will get the best service.
