We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittany Renee Douglas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Brittany Renee, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?

I hope my legacy will be an impact of inspiration and healing to others. My mission for my business is to “Create a legacy in the midst of doubt”, meaning that even when the journey is bumpy and you nothing is falling into place for you continue to have strength to push forward and know that one day the sun will shine bright in your life.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Brittany Renee I am the Owner and Founder of Honey’s Harmony, LLC located in Durham, NC. I am a Herbalist and Doula. Honey’s Harmony is a black owned herbal tea company offering over 20 flavors of teas and herbs from all over the world, like India, China, South Africa, and Japan just to name a few places. Honey’s Harmony is also a safe space for those needing healing and inspiration on their spiritual and healing journeys. I birthed Honey’s Harmony during one of he most challenging times in my life. We were at the peak of the Pandemic me and my daughter were experiencing homelessness and I knew I wanted to transform my entire life so we could live the life we deserved. I was already a tea lover and while I was on this journey I was also on a weight loss journey where I was already incorporating teas and herbs into my daily life. So I took my own experiences and adversities turned it into something positive. You know like the saying turning “Pain into Purpose” instead of letting my pain from my past traumas and experiences be in the driver seat of my life I decided to do some healing to inspire those around who were also struggling in life and mentally exhausted. As I grew my business and started to gain my independence and started getting my name and business circulated I decided to pursue my passion in becoming a Doula. I already had over ten years of direct care for patients in the medical field and when I became a mother, my daughter was around four when I realized that I survived a really ugly ride of postpartum depression. This lead my heart to become a Doula to support other mothers through their birthing journey. Support was not apart of my story when I became a mother and I wanted to be that person for someone else because it’s extremely easy to get lost in your mind when you don’t know how to ask for help. I feel my passions and purpose in this lifetime is what sets me apart from other business owners and businesses. I didn’t want to follow a trend more so be the trendsetter and create my own lane while creating my legacy. I want to be the most influential and inspiring person in my daughter’s life, so I knew there wasn’t room for giving up. Never I gave up and that makes me feel so successful and at peace with following my heart to start my business.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

I think consistency helped build my reputation. There’s been plenty of days where I would have creative blocks and felt as if I was failing but I realized that if I showed up everyday not only for audience or business but mostly for myself this would show who I was and what I stood for and what I was representing. Staying true to that and myself really helped me a lot to keep a positive reputation in my market.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

The best source for new clients for me has been REELS! (Shoutout to the Metaverse world) A lot of people don’t know I am truly shy and I hate being on camera but as I start to grow on social media and intriguing clients with my photography adding in 1-3 minutes and being able to share a small of positivity through my messages has helped grabbed the attentions of new comers to my business.
