Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittany O’Neal. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brittany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Looking back, what’s an important lesson you learned at a prior job
Wow. I have a few answers to this question, lol; but I’ll share one. The most important lesson I learned from a job that has helped me as a business owner was, “Don’t worry about what anyone else is doing. Do YOUR job.”
That stuck with me because it made me realize that, I can’t always do what someone else is doing. Further more, I don’t always know what’s going on behind the scenes in order for them to do what they’re doing.
That lesson has helped me tremendously in business because at times, I literally have tunnel vision. I don’t worry about someone else’s business, vision, goals, what they’re doing, what they’re not doing, etc. Because I’m too busy focused on my vision, goals, and what I could be doing better in my own business.
That lesson also keeps me very stress free externally! Lol
My advice to any new business owner coming into things: “Don’t worry about what they’re doing. Worry about what YOU’re doing. The results will be reflective in a positive way.”
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Sometimes it’s so hard to talk about yourself lol. I’m Brittany O’Neal from Jacksonville, FL. I started Brilliant Ladies Rock in 2016, where I teach women how to save/budget; fix their credit, and advocate for mental health awareness.
I am MOST known for Brilliant Ladies Rock Travel (#bblrtravel). I teach women how to travel for free/reduced cost, using multiple tried and verified methods. I think it’s important for women to be able to experience places outside of their hometown. ESPECIALLY with their kids. It doesn’t matter where you are in the country, your background, you can join and benefit from the #bblrtravel community. We are constantly growing!
There’s a FREE extension to #bblrtravel and it is The “Brilliant Ladies Rock Travel African American History Landmark Scavenger Hunt” (#bblrtravelaahlsh). I would love for every city to participate! It’s free and I’ve already gathered the information for people, to make it fun. So far, the scavenger hunt has been completed in 10 major cities, (Jacksonville, Atlanta, Miami, Los Angeles, New York, to name a few), with more to be added!
Most people do not know this, but when I founded Brilliant Ladies Rock, I wasn’t thinking about traveling. I was in a deep financial hole, I was depressed with a new baby, and at the time my world had just honestly been turned upside down. The “fighter” in me knew, “Brittany you have to get it together. You got it.”
When you look at Brilliant Ladies Rock/Brilliant Ladies Rock Travel, you’re looking at my life. The past experiences, the present experiences, and a look into my future. I work every day just like, “The Girl Next Door”. Humbly speaking, I am what sets Brilliant Ladies Rock (#bblrtravel) apart from others. It’s pure, relatable, and a true definition of “bootstrapped”.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think my honesty and transparency helped build my reputation. For a long time, I’ve been sharing raw, “not so glamorous”, moments about and within the business. (Which is actually apart of my real Life personality). People gravitated towards that and some of it spread by word of mouth.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me has honestly been word of mouth. Every client that I have, I try my best to provide them with an awesome experience.
Some of them appreciate their experience so much that, they refer others to me.
I am more than appreciative for that!
