We recently connected with Brittany Olsen and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today
Firstly, I would have started sooner. I wish I would have acted on starting the company sooner, but am very thankful for the experience I gained working with other companies.
When Studio B first started out, it was in the middle of the pandemic, so it began with a very large list of services – social events, weddings, corporate, etc. We wanted to make sure we could ebb and flow with whatever the future held for the industry. Since then, we’ve fine tuned that a bit and have begun focusing on what Studio B was meant for: Experiential events with a focus in the entertainment and corporate sector. If I could go back the only thing I would change is to start out focusing on that.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started out doing events in college at the University of Tennessee – I ended up getting an internship at an Event company in Nashville. I started my career there full-time, doing everything from weddings to corporate, music industry events, and everything in between!
Fast forward, and I ended up at an experiential event agency based out of the UK, where I got tons of national and international event experience. COVID happened, got furloughed – panicked like every other person in the industry and questioned whether or not I should even try to continue staying in it. I quickly realized I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, and with the encouragement from some special people, Studio B Consulting was born!
Studio B Consulting is an international event design + experience studio. We create tailor-made, intentionally curated experiences world-wide.
We specialize in corporate experiences and branded experiential events. We are very intentional with the clients that we partner with, which our clients have shown to love about us. We’re big relationship people – our goal isn’t simply to get in and get done. We want to partner up with clients and brands that we can continue to grow and work with.
I think a little of what sets us apart is that we focus on the experience. We’re not just party planners. We immerse ourselves in the client’s brand or vision- what do they want their guests to think, feel, smell, taste, etc., as they are going through this event experience? We like to think outside the box – break barriers. Bada Bing Bada Boom! We dive into that and create something really special and unforgettable.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Networking and keeping in touch with my current relationships has helped the company stay top of mind with them to refer Studio B. I hate to sound so cliche but it truly is all about who you know. It’s all about making an impression and giving your clients a good enough experience to want to refer you to new ones.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I joined an entrepreneurs group for women called BrainTrust and it has impacted me exponentially. It can get very lonely as an entrepreneur, so having that network of like-minded women is a game changer when it comes to working through any issues that arise when building a company and also celebrating the small (and big) wins! I think it’s really important to build that camaraderie and build each other up – especially as women in small business.
