We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittany Myricks a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brittany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Covid has brought about so many changes – has your business model changed?
Covid STARTED my business! As I was in line with everyone else who got let go due to covid, this pandemic really made me take a step back and evaluate what I wanted for my life. I love event planning and I knew I wanted to go into wedding planning but the time I dedicated to my full time job, didn’t allow me to work on the business I wanted so bad. So being let go was hard but it turned into a blessing as I finally had the time to build my business from the ground up! Of course there were no in-person weddings happening during covid so I designed, created and manufactured “The Ultimate Wedding Planner”. The Ultimate wedding planner is a physical planner book that gives the Newley engaged all the resources, tools and confidence they need to plan their big day. Adjusting and playing by the covid rules was a challenge but by the grace of God, it enabled me to do something I had no idea I could do.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For those who do not know who I am, my name is Brittany and I am the founder and CEO of Altar&Co. Altar&Co is a boutique wedding planning company in the Dallas-Fort Worth area! Similar to many other businesses, Altar&Co. was born as a result of the pandemic. I got let go from my job and amidst the stress of “what now?” I felt God call me to finally pursue what I had been dreaming about for so long. My first endeavor with Altar&Co. was creating “The Ultimate Wedding Planner”. This planner book is not only elegant and a beautiful keepsake but it gives the newly engaged all the resources they need to plan their big day with ease. Coupled with The Ultimate Wedding Planner, I also launched actual planning services. Altar&Co. offers Full Service Planning, Month of Management, and Proposal Planning. With each package you will get my full attention, dedication and passion to create an event that is straight out of a fairytale.
One thing about me is that I am huge on my faith. That is how Altar&Co. was born. In a time that I didn’t know what I was going to do I felt God leading me to leave all my burdens, fears, and worries at the altar. So that is what I did and let me tell you…God knows what he is doing! This brand and this company car become my pride and joy and I am so excited where God takes it in the future.

I have big goals for myself so in no way am I where I want to be yet but I am a long way from where I came from! Social media is a huge factor for small business these days. Often times people don’t say “let me find their website” they say “are they on instagram?”. It has become a huge factor not only for my business but for the entire small business community because if you can win your followers over (and I mean genuine followers – not store bought ones) you have a real leg up in your community. For wedding planning, one factor that has helped me gain a wider audience and the trust of my followers is not creating the “so what” content. Yes that is a pretty photo but. “so what?”. Don’t create “so what” content. With every post, every video, & every reel I create I know it has to be relevant and I know will be helpful to my audience. My audience doesn’t want “so what” they want help sticking to wedding budgets, help with seating charts and actual information they can at the end of the day “save”. And what does “saving” content do? Say it together now, “HELPS YOU OUT IN THE ALGORITHM”!
Another way to grow your audience and gain your followers trust is just by being yourself. I know it sounds corny but it is true. You are one of a kind. Don’t spin your wheels trying to duplicate what someone else is trying to do. Just because it works for them, doesn’t mean it will work for you. Find your power and find your confidence in yourself first. Social media can be a great tool but people on it can see right through fake. Be authentically you.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The two main sources of new clients for me are from instagram and word of mouth. I can’t tell you how great it is to get an inquiry and they mention a previous client and how they loved the work I did for them! It makes you feel great that you make people happy and your services you provide leave an impact!
