We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Moore recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I’ve actually thought about this quite a bit. I moved to Nashville when I was 25 and have always felt sad about the delayed start. I feel like so many people that I collaborate with now, started their Nashville journey right after high school to come to college here.
For a while it used to bother me thinking about all of the “missed time” there was with my later move to town. But the longer I’ve been here, the more I’ve realized the experience (and benefits!) I have by living a bit more before making the jump. I feel like it’s given me a different perspective to the journey itself and the songs I write. I also feel like it’s so true that there is not one way to make it in Nashville and everyone really is on their own path.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
So I’m a country singer songwriter originally from the Northwest corner of Arkansas. I started playing guitar when I was 15 and learned the basics of the instrument from Taylor Swift’s first album. That was also around the time that I started writing songs.
Life before Nashville consisted of playing at local restaurants, breweries, and farmer’s markets. There weren’t a whole lot of options so I’d really just play anywhere that I could.
My husband is who really encouraged me to take the leap and move to Nashville to pursue songwriting and my artistry full time. He worked remote, and I really had nothing to lose so we figured might as well. We moved from NWA to Nashville in September of 2018 and I haven’t looked back since.
More recently, life in Nashville looks more like 3-4 cowrites a week, playing a few rounds a month, and always working on the next single release.
I feel like both my sound and my writing style are a little quirky and always seem familiar but something you can’t quite put your finger on. I’ve always said I wanted my music to be “commercial enough” but still bending the rules a little.
So far, I’ve been featured on the Bobby Bones Show and have played stages like Third & Lindsley, The Bluebird Cafe, and The Listening Room which have all been proud moments for me in my career.
I hope that new fans that are finding my music for the first time are able to connect to my cheeky honesty and see a new perspective that makes them think a little differently than before.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, I love writing songs that the audience can connect with.
Although the social media game can be tough at times, it’s so nice to see people first hand that are stumbling across your music and connecting with the songs you’re writing. I’ve had two songs do pretty well on social platforms and seeing people talk about how they have impacted them really is the best feeling.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I think NSAI is a great tool especially for beginners and I only wish I would have known about it and it’s benefits sooner!
A lot of people get started with NSAI when they move to Nashville (which is great!) because they give you space to write, network, and learn the ins and outs of the craft. But had I realized that NSAI offers local chapters based on your location, I feel like I would have learned so much more earlier on all while still living in Arkansas.
Before I moved to town, I hadn’t really co-written before and I didn’t understand how to take my songwriting to the next level. Between the tips and the plethora of resources NSAI offers, I could have been perfecting my songwriting before ever moving to town and making me better prepared for when the big move finally did arrive.
