Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittany & Megan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brittany & Megan, appreciate you joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later?
We do often find ourselves wishing that we had ventured into the creative space that we created with our social media platforms sooner, based off of the fact that it makes us happy and we absolutely love what we do in that realm. However, we also think that had we started at any other time, we might not have seen the same level of success, so we really do think that the idea and the execution came exactly when it was meant to.
Brittany & Megan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We started our slice of the internet with our Instagram page and blog February 2020, right before the world shut down. The creation of our space was created because of a miscarriage and feeling isolated and alone while dealing with that. Most everything we came across on the internet and social media tended to be perfectly curated pictures and captions, rarely mentioning the hardships of parenting and journeys to parenthood. We wanted to change that. We wanted to start honest conversations around the hardships of parenting, while also bringing humor to areas we could to make people feel seen and connected during their respective journeys to parenthood. We are so proud of the space we’ve created and fostered and love that we can talk about the highs of parenting and the lows of parenting and have a whole community of people that gets it.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We started our social media by sharing stories and snippets of our lives that were open, honest, authentic and relatable. Sharing the hard sides of parenting in spaces that historically glorify the “pretty” made for a breath of fresh air to our followers and from that we gained a following and built a community. For others getting started, our main suggestion is to be true to yourself. Sure, trends may get you the followers, but use and tweak them to be true to you. There is truth in the saying that you should be yourself because everyone else is already taken. With truly being you and showing your unique qualities or perspectives in your social media, you will find your people.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of what we do is the relationships we’ve built. We have really loved building a community of parents and parents to be that find value in the authenticity.
