We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brittany Mcvicker. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brittany below.
Brittany, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I’ve recently had the honor of working with an amazing director (Keenan O’Riley) on a music film tilted “You Are The Answer”. The project is with the iconic band the Goo Goo Dolls. The story is about breaking the cycle of abuse by recognizing the pain of the past. The project is in collaboration with the Safe At Home foundation which works to educate to end the cycle of domestic violence. Their motto is “Every child deserves to feel Safe At Home.” I hope the film will touch the minds and hearts of many.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I grew up doing plays in church. I’ve always loved films and during Covid, I took some acting classes. It was in those classes that I learned just how much I loved acting and what an impact it can make on people. Film is such a way to connect with the world and open minds to more than the four walls around them.
Acting also opens up this door of vulnerability in you that tends to come out in every day life. My goal is to empower audiences through film. There’s enough movies about the nerdy guy who gets the girl in the end.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
A lot of people see the red carpet photos or the fabulous press video and go “Wow! What an easy beautiful career.” I mean, it can be beautiful, but this truly an unglamorous job. You could be on a set 12 – 16 hours, multiple days in a row. It can make a person a bit delusional. And God Bless the crew members. I’ve been on the crew side plenty of times, it’s a very demanding job. I also don’t think like the writers to the cinematographers to the AD’s get enough recognition. No film or show would ever happen without them. They’re a crucial part of this industry.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission so to speak would be to make films that leave an actual impact. – whether it’s on a massive scale or it just touches one soul. I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to work a couple times with an amazing filmmaker and director, Milroy Goes. We’ve talked about making films to bring more awareness in America of the beautiful place that is Goa. I think we have a couple of ideas up our sleeves. I mean, I’m not out here coming up with ideas to be cute or appealing – I want to empower audiences through film. There’s enough movies about the nerdy guy who gets the girl and they kiss in the end.
