We were lucky to catch up with Brittany McGee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
Both of my parents came from nothing & worked their way up in the world/their careers. They taught me what resilience looks like & how you create your own destiny. Success isn’t always an easy road & it looks different for everyone but you must put in the work.
Brittany, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Brittany McGee but a lot of people call me B/Bee. I own a small batch bakery specializing in custom cakes as well as french macaron, cookies, & even plant based/flourless treats. I’m proud of my ability to overcome obstacles as there has been many during the last 5 years doing this. My goal from the beginning has always been to create confections made with intention & to be as inclusive as possible regarding dietary preferences/restrictions. The Humble Bee Shoppe is an extension of my heart & I’m grateful that I get to share that with the world every single day.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Once covid hit, I think everyone had to pivot. I’ve had to make lots of pivots in my life – even presently. I think one thing I am trying to understand more is what happiness looks like & for me it’s practicing gratitude, the ability to be present, & understanding that in order to achieve whatever success looks like to you that you must do the work on yourself in tandem with working on your business.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
For my entire life, I have struggled with mental health. From disordered eating to depression/anxiety – it’s been quite a journey. But even if I fall, I find ways to get back up through the support of those around me constantly lifting me up & believing in me. I’ve struggled the last 5 years with all the stress that comes with a business but especially doing it all alone. I hope to inspire people to take care of their minds & their hearts while also chasing their dreams!
