We were lucky to catch up with Brittany McCarthy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Find a career in fundraising was the best decision I have ever made for myself. A career in fundraising and development offers a unique and fulfilling opportunity to make a positive impact on the world while also advancing your professional growth. Fundraising professionals play a pivotal role in securing financial resources for non-profit organizations, universities, hospitals, and various causes. To embark on this rewarding journey, one must follow a well-structured process and strategies which has made me so successful . I have worked for many independent schools and non profits and have fundraised over 30 million dollars to help support and change many individuals lives.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have always been a person who wants to help for the greater good. The best way that fit for me in helping, was becoming a fundraiser. Once you secure a role in fundraising and development, your journey is just beginning. Your contributions will help organizations achieve their missions, whether it’s funding research, supporting underserved communities, or promoting social change. Remember that dedication, continuous learning, and a genuine commitment to the causes you support are key to a rewarding career in fundraising and development.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I started my journey in media. I still have the passion to continue my work in the media industry, but my calling was to become a fundraiser. Fundraising is not just about raising money; it’s about making a difference, building relationships, and being a catalyst for positive change. Your experience serves as an inspiration for others who are considering a career in fundraising and development. It underscores the potential for personal growth and the opportunity to be part of something meaningful. Once I figured this out I know this was the career turn for me.
