We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brittany Marshall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brittany below.
Brittany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career
I believe very strongly that mental health awareness should be a more foundational aspect of school. Learning topics regarding our own mental health as well as the people around us are important skills when navigating the world regardless of how old you are. I think this could result in better relationships, less crime and so many other positives. When I think about my own experiences in school, (especially middle school) I would have benefited more from a mental health related course versus some of the other things we were working on.

Brittany, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Feel Good RVA came to be from piecing together what my inner child needed. Safe spaces, fun spaces, informative spaces, supportive spaces. I wanted to give the community something that I felt had been missing. In an effort to destigmatize the topic of mental health and provide support within the community, over the last six years FGRVA has become a liaison between counseling practices and new clients, we have hosted countless events ranging from music shows to self care workshops, we’ve also hosted river clean ups with James River Park System, to name a few of our previous projects! I am so proud to be able to help others in a unique way and I hope to continue making a difference in Virginia.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I think I’ve seen the most growth online when I was doing two key things:
1. Supporting other brands’s posts, likes, comments and especially shares because that normally breaks the ice and opens the door for networking conversations.
2. Getting out in the community and meeting people! In the earlier days of FGRVA (pre-quarantine), we went to A LOT of events. Even if they didn’t necessarily have the same mission. I feel like every conversation has value, so we just tried to meet anyone that we could.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I think a major lesson I had to unlearn and am still unlearning is that I have to do everything super fast. It’s ok to take your time and it’s ok to take breaks when you need it. Growing this brand, I’ve had moments where I felt like I had to do it all – event planning, marketing, graphics, content, the list goes on and it becomes stressful. But once the burnout makes me start to enjoy this less, I know its time to regroup.
