We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Marshall recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brittany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I’ve always thought about the “what ifs” in life being an artist. I should’ve started sooner, if I did I would be in this position. But I had to stop saying that to myself because everyone finds their purpose on their own time when God has planned for you, but it happens at the perfect time. You just have to trust the process, have patience, and really take a risk on yourself.
I’ve been drawing as early as 5 years old that I can actually remember. I’ve always had that artist side of me my whole life. I used to sit in the back of classrooms just doodling in my notebook. I was enrolled into all the advanced art classes. I even auditioned for a performing arts school in Florida called Douglas Anderson. I got in but with my mom being in the military it was just difficult for me to attend due to transportation because it was so far from where I lived.
Nevertheless, I didn’t let that stop my passion. In High School, my ceramics teacher really wanted me in her AP studio art class but at that time I was so focused on going to school for nursing. I did join the National Art Honors Society and I just kept my art passion as a hobby I would do in my free time. Once I got to college I realized very quickly how doing something I truly had a passion for and loved outweighed everything. Then I fell right into my passion and art career by accident. Everything happens for a reason, at the perfect timing. Every decision that was made led me to the right path and has put me in positions that I would never see myself in if it wasn’t for my faith in God, his guidance of my footsteps, stepping out on faith and really trusting him.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
How did you build your audience on social media?
I used to post my services on my personal instagram page. I still received clients but it just wasn’t as efficient since I was just taking orders through direct message. I needed something that separated the two for it to be more professional. But, ultimately I built a social media presence from those that supported me they’ve always reposted my work or even by word of mouth. Hashtags were my best friend as well! It is important to try to be as consistent as possible when it comes to posting as well, I’m still learning this. But It’s definitely worth it! One of my clients actually told me about some marketing tools she learned and really gave me insight when it came to social media and marketing which I really appreciated. It’s all about networking and it only takes one share, which is free! SHARE, SHARE, SHARE! It costs nothing to support anyone with a small business, someone is always checking out your page and looking at your work just by one click.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
A particular goal or mission I have that is driving my creative journey is really the reactions I get from clients when they see my creations. Creating art is truly where I find peace within myself and just having that creative control and putting my all in doing something I love and with the love and support I receive is truly what drives me. Just being able to really touch people’s hearts through art is the best motivation and is such an electrifying feeling. The goal is for people to feel something from art. The feeling of love and appreciation is something that I want my clients to feel when they see my creations with me telling their stories through my art.
