We recently connected with Brittany Lillie and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
That day was so exciting! I had been marketing myself on Instagram and TikTok, building a pipeline of good, valuable content. After a month or two, someone scheduled a Discovery Call with me to chat about potentially hiring a social media manager. I remember being so nervous because it was my first time presenting myself and my business to someone who wasn’t already a friend/family member, but everything went smoothly. He was very relaxed, easy to interact with, and hired me on the spot. To this day, I still work with him. He is an amazing person and the best first client any social media manager could work with.
Brittany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
It wasn’t until I started scrolling through TikTok one day that I came across all these so-called ‘Social Media Managers’. I remember being very intrigued by these people and what they do to make a living. At the time I had just graduated college and was working a job in marketing that didn’t pay the bills.
My first internship in college was being a Social Media Specialist, so I had experience managing a business’s social media presence online. Not once had I thought that it would be my career though.
As I continued to scroll through TikTok, social media managers popped up on my fyp consistently. I began doing research on how I could become one and make it a full-time job.
As I was learning the craft I decided to start my own TikTok and Instagram profiles, I named them both SociallyHer, which would later be my legal business name. For the next 3-4 months I posted consistently, sharing social media tips, giving advice, and talking about the services I offer.
This was how I become a full-time Freelance Social Media Manager.
The services I currently offer are full-service social media management packages. I manage brands social media by providing content creation, strategy, and daily management. My goal is to impact the business’s bottom line by building personalized social media strategies that convert.
If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?
Aside from social media management I also do brand deals and most recently began offering course building as a service for brands looking to earn passive income. As I work on scaling my business I plan to continue diversifying my revenue streams.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The key is showing up every day. It’s a combination of consistency and good content that will build you a loyal audience on social media. In the beginning stages of my business, I committed myself to post on TikTok Monday-Friday for 3 months. This is what helped me get my first 1k on TikTok. Aside from just posting content, you need to make sure you’re posting valuable content, and have a strategy in place. In other words, don’t just post to post. For anyone looking to build an online presence, I suggest niching down and thinking about topics/categories in your space that you want to talk about. Use these ideas and turn them into TikToks or Reels. Don’t be afraid to talk to the camera and hop on trends.
