We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Lee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
If I could go back In time I do wish I would have started my business sooner. I started my makeup and braiding business at separate times. I started braiding hair back in 2016 after having my son. I enjoyed braiding and making extra money. Once I started back working in the corporate world I stopped. Then the pandemic hit and I began working from home, turned 30 and decided to pursue my passion in doing makeup professionally. I’ve always been passionate about makeup and hair since I was in high school but I wasn’t motivated at all to pursue it. I regret that because I know it would have deterred me from making some of the mistakes I made in my younger years. However, I know that things happen for a reason and I am thankful that now in my early 30s I am a successful MUA and Braider in the DFW area.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Brittany Lee Muipatayi. I am an MUA and Braider in the DFW area. I was born and raised in los Angela’s California. I got into this industry by being a self taught makeup artist and Braider. I began braiding back in high school and I started doing makeup in my late 20s. When I was a little girl about 8 or 9 years old, I would look at a picture and mimic the exact picture just by looking at it. That was the beginning of my love for art. So, throughout my years in school, I took art classes and fell in love with painting. When I moved to Texas, I began having to do my own hair which was something I never had to do back home because I always knew someone who could do it. So, I taught myself how to straighten, perm, braid and as of recently do faux locs. Then using my artistic talent, I taught myself how to do makeup. I practiced, watched countless YouTube videos for pointers and tips, and made a name for myself, Sneakerhead Britt! You may ask where the name sneakerhead Britt came from? That is because I love and collect sneakers. I have been in business for 2 years now and I am in love with what I do. COVID played a big role in me pursuing my passion for doing makeup and hair professionally. Over these past few years, I have done bridal parties, proms, brides, models, birthday shoots, and maternity shoots. I absolutely love what I do making women feel and look naturally beautiful. I am most proud of being a role model to my children. I want to build something much more than makeup and hair. I am working on building a Sneakerhead Britt empire including fitness as well. I have lost about 50 pounds from jump roping and I love to encourage women young and old to join in with me. I am so excited to what is yet to come for Sneakerhead Britt makeup, hair and fitness!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being humble, kind and respectful to anyone and everyone has helped me build my reputation within the makeup and hair market.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Instagram, tik tok, and Facebook have been the best source of new clients for me. I promote my work on all three social media accounts and that’s where I’ve gotten my clients from. Also word of my mouth from my clients who have been with me for a long time.
