We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittany Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany, appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The story behind the name: thepicnicpartygirl
Originally, I wanted to go with “idoparties” but that was taken. Then it was “idopicnics” but I didn’t want clients to think we only do picnics. Then, it was “idopartiesandpicnics”, and I was sure of this one! Until, I saw my husband’s reaction to it. I wasn’t entirely defeated because deep down in my back pocket I had another pitch to him. “thepicnicpartygirl”. I had already clicked my heels and recited it to myself 3 times prior, and although it was a long one too, it was soooo cute! And so me! I saw the logo in my head already, PINK!!! BARBIE!!! He couldn’t resist and he didn’t. I said the name to him confidently and he loved it. Alas, thepicnicpartygirl began. I couldn’t be happier to have a suiting name and an alter ego.

Hi there!
I’m Brittany, founder and boss-lady of thepicnicpartygirl. Established August 2023. Our hand-crafted, wood small tables, comfy floor pillows and luxury table scape are just one of many services we provide. We also offer indoor decorating such as hotels, restaurants, Airbnb’s, work spaces and more. I am the head stylist- I like to consider myself as the “PR” of party planning. If I can’t do it I’ll find you someone who can!
My loving husband is next in line-he’s my co-founder and muscle. He designed our logo and lets me borrow almost all of his phone storage! And our 4 children, they are our biggest support system.
What I’d love for people to know and also what sets us apart from similar competitors is our ability to stay relevant. Our setups are very well thought out, intimate and fresh! We welcome new ideas, color pairing and themes. We take pieces from art, fashion, culture, music, what’s current. Unlike your traditional luxury picnic or decor, we like to pay close attention to detail with our clients and allow them to be the inspiration.
When I think about thepicnicpartygirl and my hopes for our growing business, I think about my children. Mainly my 3 daughters. I want to be a role model for them and all young females. To encourage and inspire them to hustle! To make a passion a career and have something to pass on to their children. That is what we proudly represent.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Resilience is second nature to me. Resilience is what life is all about. Resilience in my story happened so many times in 3 decades but the one I can say helped birth thepicnicpartygirl is the end of my first marriage.
Simply put, I was stuck in something I never should have been in. I was young and have little confidence and less direction. It took many years and finding the right person to guide me. I have so much gratitude for my now husband.
I know hard work and I know tough love but my husband truly made it easy for me. He allowed me to meet my dreams and callings. You will find that you can be less resilient with great people in your corner.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
For us, the most effective strategy for growing your clientele is knowing your target audience. Know who you want and don’t want, especially. Turn down people who aren’t for you-that’s okay!
I learned working is one thing but working with peace of mind is EVERYTHING. Get out to as many places as possible with as many people as possible and feel them all out! Find your tribe and your tribe will multiply. Some of them might work to your advantage, the rest will be your social media followers!
