We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brittany Hogan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brittany below.
Alright, Brittany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I believe it takes determination and the ability to pivot to be successful. Anyone can have goals and ambition to do big things but without determination things may not end up the way one intended. Unfortunately the way life is, most people do not complete their goals because they give up or allow life to get in the way. Learning when and how to Pivot is a major key.
Although I have had several instances where life has thrown me lemons and I quickly made sparkling lemonade, this year in particular has been an adventure to say the least. In the beginning of the year I had some personal family issues happen and then I shortly found out I was pregnant. Although I had manifested my son I surpassed my timeline and began to make other plans with my life (God’s timing is everything). A few months went by and our one and only vehicle at the time was stolen and crashed. This hit us in so many ways because at the time I was using said car to make ends meet with door dash and instacart let alone trying to get our kids to school, doctor apts etc. fast forward to a few more months and insurance, the DMV and a few other agency all trying to collect some kind of money all at once for a car we had no longer owned. This year has been rough however because of our determination and pivoting our finances and family are thriving. I want to leave a legacy for my children. I strive for them to take what we are able to leave them and multiply it for our future generations to come. Determination and the art of pivoting when life throws you lemons is needed to be successful.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
As many can probably relate Covid was a huge pivotal year in my life and business. Year 2020 was a magical year income wise for my household with the understanding that many lost a lot and some are still recovering from said losses. That year was the best for me. One of my major pivots was moving to a new town we knew nothing about in the midst of the lockdown. Prior to moving I had just started out on my networking event journey and started to build a small following. So once things shut down I had to pivot yet again and find ways not only to supplement income but to continue growing my business as well.
I went to the internet and began connecting with people on social media. This was the birth of Boujee on a Budget 757 group (currently at about 2.5k members). I simply began networking, attending events, hosting events, and connecting online. Fast forward to things begining to open back up in 2021. I hosted my biggest event where I and my small team of dedicated ladies brought my vision of 80+ women in one room sharing, connecting, collaborating, and collecting. The first For our Sisters Conference was born.
Pivoting has always been a part of my journey.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I believe the best source of growing and connecting to new clients is Networking! I literally have built my business in my new city by simply putting myself out there and networking. A few extra things that can help with networking is hosting your own events. It is something less intimidating about having people come to your event and connect over small bites and great vibes. Attending other people’s events is another great way. Less work on yourself with all of the benefits. Lastly my secret sauce is something I call card-for- card and the goodie bag method.
Card-for-card is any and every time I go to swipe my card for a business transaction I give the cashier a business card. I let them know even if it will not serve them please pass it along to someone who you think will benefit. I am not only documenting a tax write off but allowing my card, business and face ( make sure your face is on your card folks never forget faces and once they see yours they will remember how you made them feel in your interaction).
The goodie bag method is simply a small bag with some seasonal candy/decor and my business card wrapped up real cute. While I am out and about running errands I will make sure to pass out at least 10 or so before returning home. This can be to cashiers, mothers in the store having a hard time with kiddos, someone who looks tired or in need of a pick-me-up.
