We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittany Heyne a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
The back story: The reason I began training in the first place and how it changed my life. Sports were always a huge part of my life growing up. This was until I got into high school, and other factors became involved – boys and dating. I was in a relationship my entire 4 years of high school, and that’s when it all changed. I began skipping practices, missing games, and eventually, quit my senior year of high school for a boy. I was no longer focused on myself and what made me happy (which I didn’t realize at the time), but was so focused on another person, and how I thought they ‘made me feel happy and fulfilled’. My relationships continued on into college and after college. This was until I found myself in a toxic relationship that eventually lead me to a spot in the hospital. I didn’t know who I was. I didn’t know what I wanted. I was lost. I felt a constant emptiness when I was not in a relationship. I realized I needed other people’s validation to make myself feel good. I always put everyone else’s happiness and needs before mine, and by doing that, I lost myself and sacrificed my own happiness. I lost all self-confidence, all self-esteem, and all self-worth. After the hospital situation, I began going to therapy, and there started my self improvement journey. I began exercising regularly and got really into strength training. I loved the way it made me feel, it made me feel strong again. I began eating healthy, and cut back on alcohol. It completely changed my life, and was a huge turning point. I began refocusing on myself – what made me happy, what I wanted. I was putting myself, my needs, and my health first. My self confidence grew and I found who I was again. I decided to pursue a Personal Training cert – I knew there were other’s out there who were going through the same and/or went through similar situations – feeling lost, lack of self confidence, relying on other people to make themselves feel whole, etc. I knew I wanted to be that person to help them with their situation
Takeaway: You do not need validation from other’s to be happy or make yourself feel good. Happiness comes from within, and you need to find happiness with yourself. Fitness has done this for me – it’s not just about physique, but what it teaches you along the way. It teaches you sacrifice, it teaches you discipline, it teaches you grit, it teaches you resilience, it teaches you patience, it teaches you so much. Not only that, it makes you stronger – both physically and mentally. It has changed my life. No matter what your situation, you need to put you (your physical and mental health) first. It’s not selfish, it’s necessary.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
How I got into the industry: My defining moment on the previous page =) It saved my life.
What type of service I provide: I currently provide Online 1:1 Personal Training + Nutrition
What problems I solve: I teach clients how to build healthy, sustainable habits. They learn how to replace bad habits with good habits, It’s a mindset, it’s not just a few months program – it’s a lifestyle change that takes implementing healthier habits throughout the day that eventually lead to large changes over time. I help them with time management, making healthier food choices, and building their confidence.
What sets me apart: I connect with them on a personal level and truly care about my clients. I’m with them every step of the way and want them to succeed. There’s no better feeling of achieving your own goals other than watching and helping other’s reach theirs!
What am I most proud of: The accomplishments of my past and current clients. They work hard and it shows!
What do I want potential clients to know about me: I will give you all the tools necessary to achieve your goals – I’ll be there every step of the way. All I ask is that you put in the work. And if you do – it’s truly life changing! Stop waiting for the right time, it will never come. The time is now.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Discipline. I get the question all the time – “how do you stay motivated”. And the answer is: I don’t. It’s discipline, and it’s something that’s built over time. It’s continuously doing the things you really don’t want to do, over and over again, knowing you HAVE to do them in order to get where you want to be. This is key.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I was training 10 online clients and 8-10 in person clients and got burnt out because I didn’t have the proper systems in place. I stopped training completely and rebuilt my systems, prices, and processes.
