Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittany Henderson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brittany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
I recently completed a personal custom hat for an amazing woman, I met at a show in Mena, Ak. She reached out to me months after the show, wanting a hat from my website, however it had just sold. I never recreate a hat, so ins I took some ideas from the sold hat and a few interviews with her, and together we created a similar style hat with a personal twist, matching her vision. This custom really pushed my creative limits, it had the most hand burned details of any hat thus far. This style and layout, with the hours of hand burning, helped tell her personal journey in a custom Hat! During the interview and brainstorming, I learned her story, talking daily throughout the process! The burning of the landscape captured the scene as if it were a painting. She not only inspired me creatively, but we also developed a friendship! I wrapped up this custom, surprising her with a few features she wasn’t expecting, in the end I wound up giving her a discount and a few Velvet Mayhem freebees! Experiences like this are why I started Velvet Mayhem.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have always been an individual that loved fashion and worked as a cosmetologist. I had an eye, early on, for trends, yet always struggled, wanting to dress in my own style. I had been redesigning my own clothing, distressing almost everything I wore. Even to this day, people compliment me, saying, “Where did you buy that?” When creating my hats, I just channel that creativity, I feel, I was blessed to be born with. I use the creativity from altering my clothes, to create each one-of-a-kind custom Hat, and it has grown into what Velvet Mayhem is today. I take pride in ensuring that all my custom hats are truly one-of-a-kind! This is what sets Velvet Mayhem apart from other hat business. The name itself represents the inner beauty, chaos, fashion sense, that inspire me daily! From day one, my goal has been, to help women and men express the personal beauty and love, while wearing one of my customs, as if they were walking on their own red carpet called, LIFE!
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I would say word of mouth has been my best strategy for success. Appearing in different events and also taking the initiative of to know people personally.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The biggest thing I have learned with social media is posting everyday on all platforms worked really well for me. Also doing shout outs supporting other small businesses brought attention and other followers, I may have not gotten..
