We recently connected with Brittany Hale and Megan Cardwell and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany Hale and Megan Cardwell, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
We decided to really embrace our creative sides and shift the type of work we were doing, when our girls were born. We took a hard look at the type of work we were doing, what it was doing for the world around us, and the type of work/life balance we wanted to maintain in order to make sure our families are at the top of our priority lists.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are two sisters, Megan and Brittany, who are working together to create an inclusive community that normalizes the taboo topics in motherhood/parenthood. When our daughters were born, we longed for a sense of community where it was okay to have big emotions about motherhood and we wanted to share all sides of it authentically. We also really wanted to help other parents and mothers feel seen and supported as well. It was hard to find that community so we created it in Oh-Four the Love. We use our platform to share our journey, support other parents, and showcase brands that we love.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building Oh-Four the Love and our community on social media is something we are proud of. There can be a lot of ways to feel comparative or have imposter syndrome, in the social media space, so we committed to being unapologetically ourselves and to always show up transparently for our followers-the good, bad, fun, ups, downs, and everything in between. Our advice for anyone who is just getting started would be to focus on having a group of followers and people who REALLY want to be there. Don’t get hung up on the follower count; an engaged audience who is genuine and wants to part of what you’re creating means a lot more than having an infinite number of people follow along.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
We think recognizing the value of creatives and paying them their worth is crucial. We try to support other people in our industry as well as local creatives and artists every chance we get.
