We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Gandy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Growing up I have always had a strong interest and passion for the human body. Learning about why things happen, understanding how all of our functions and systems work, the effects of specific training techniques on our body, how nutrition ties in with exercise, are just a few of the thoughts and questions I was always curious about. That is why I went on to study the human body in greater detail. Graduating from Adrian College with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Exercise Science and then completing my Master’s of Science degree at Eastern Michigan University in Exercise Physiology, provided me with the knowledge I needed to begin working in many inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation centers along with fitness facilities. I have been a physical therapy technician, to a wellness trainer, to working in the training and education department to then becoming a clinic manager. With all of my work experience and education, it allowed me to personally develop a ‘rehabilitation through exercise’ mindset and training approach. I was able to witness first hand how patients adapt to a life set back, how your mindset plays a significant impact on your recovery and training performance, how education and explanations of why we are performing certain movements to patients is so critical for them to receive. Working in such environments made my passion for the human body grow even more but more specifically the female body. That is when I decided to step away from the clinics in 2019 and start BMG Wellness.
Starting to develop BMG Wellness and the programs that I was going to be offering, I knew my number one goal was to help women find their best self, no matter where they were at in their health and wellness journey. I wanted to help women find a purpose in their everyday movement. I wanted to empower and educate women on their own Whole-Body Approach to health and wellness so that I am able to set their future self up for success. Always keeping that in my mind, I developed a Whole-Body Approach that I could implement with every client but was going to be unique and individualized to everyone. This approach looks at seven areas: physical activity, nutrition, self-care, self-responsibility, stress management, sleep and social. All of these seven categories intertwine with each other and all impact one another. When all of these areas are assessed, when short and long term goals are created, when daily habits are addressed, that is when we implement the exercise training program. Being mindful of all seven categories and digging into each of them, allows each client to have a greater success with their health and wellness journey.
My unique training approach that I developed early on in my career allowed me to create BMG Wellness and offer a program that clients see excellent results with. It allows me to help women as a whole and to create a community where we can all come together and support one another.
For folks who may not have read about you before, can you please tell our readers about yourself, how you got into your industry / business / discipline / craft etc, what type of products/services/creative works you provide, what problems you solve for your clients and/or what you think sets you apart from others. What are you most proud of and what are the main things you want potential clients/followers/fans to know about you/your brand/your work/ etc.
I have been in the healthcare industry for 15 years and apart of the health and wellness industry for 3 years after starting BMG Wellness in June of 2019. My passion and love for the female body is what drives my motivation and inspiration each day while working with my clients. When starting BMG Wellness, I wanted my business to be about empowering and educating women on their own body. I wanted to create a program that was 100% custom to their current state and tailored around the goals that they wanted to achieve. Most importantly, I wanted to make sure that I was helping them set their future self up for success. My ‘rehabilitation through exercise’ background gives me a physical therapy and injury prevention mindset that allows me to really focus on proper mechanics, body form, building strength, improving heart and gut health and most importantly helping women to feel strong and confident in their body.
The main program that I offer is The Executive Training Package which focuses on exercise and nutrition programming along with incorporating the additional five areas of the Whole-Body Approach – social, stress management, sleep, self-responsibility and self-care. At the beginning of your program, we set your baseline. Meaning, you undergo a baseline fitness assessment that assesses your cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular capacity and flexibility. We also weigh-in, complete before photos, body composition measurements and a dynamic posture assessment and an anatomical posture assessment. From there, I am able to build a custom program designed around your strengths and weaknesses. Nutrition is assessed during the first week where I then create custom macro goals for you (carbohydrates, protein and fats) along with a hydration goal and a fiber intake daily goal. Short and long term goals are set at the beginning and we reassess every area every 4-6 weeks. My goal is to properly train you to fuel your body from the inside out with the proper nutrition your body needs in order to perform correctly during your training sessions. We meet once a week for a live workout online together and then you are responsible for completing an additional recorded workout that I provide you with along with additional movement goals. We have constant communication with each other weekly and we will always make adjustments and modifications if needed as we go. This program has seen incredible success! Establishing a healthy balanced wellness routine is extremely important for your future self because it will allow you to continue to complete your activities of daily living safely and will help you to stay motivated to move your body every day.
I am proud of every single one of my clients that have been apart of BMG Wellness. Whether it was through a step challenge, a wellness 30-day challenge or a monthly subscription to one of the BMG Wellness packages, every single client reached a goal of theirs and continued to practice healthy habits moving forward. I feel like as a business owner of a health and wellness company, that it is a great accomplishment to witness first hand your clients reaching their goals at assessment time, witnessing their excitement when they see their comparison photos and most importantly, watching them to continue healthy balanced routines when moving forward.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Growing my clientele has been successful mostly due to word of mouth and inspiration from my current clients. With each client’s permission, I share and celebrate their achievements on my social media platforms and amongst the BMG Wellness community. It is there where other’s see their story and feel inspired to ask questions and find out more about BMG Wellness and what programs I offer.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients has been through referrals from current or past clients. When client’s see the results that they have been working very hard to achieve, they want to celebrate those accomplishments. By sharing their story and their progress, it helps to motivate others to join either a wellness challenge or a monthly package.
