We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Futrell recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Brittany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?

It’s funny because I was just having this discussion with someone at a food Institute. One thing I would change about the education system in this country is the nutrition they give to the children at public learning facilities and the education they give the children about growing their own food. I feel that the education system does not emphasize to the kids about how important it is to learn how to grow your own food, to be able to sustain their own health. Eating the best quality foods possible and maintaining your health helps you to prosper in all areas of your life. I can remember growing up my great grandmother had a garden in the back of her house and I used to go out in the garden with her, and she would teach me about gardening and tell me the nutritional values of certain foods that she was growing it really helped me in my life to understand the value of nutritional food.
I feel a way that we can start preparing students for a more fulfilling life and career is by teaching them how to grow their own Foods. I feel like every school should have a garden and the students should be able to go learn about gardening I believe it should be a mandatory class. Eating the right foods and finding the proper herbs is essential.They can heal you from anything, nutritional foods and herbs can help with your mind ,the development of your brain, the nervous system in your body and all other aspects it is truly important.

Brittany, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Brittany Futrell and I am the owner and creator of Angel Wing Sauce which is a gourmet hot sauce recipe that I created in 2006. I got into the industry by being in a horrible Financial place at one point in my life and I prayed to God to ask him which Talent should I delve into to make me a stream of income and the Holy Spirit spoke to me and told me to bottle my hot wing sauce recipe to sell to the community. So I informed my daughter of the game plan which at the time she was 12 years old in middle school and asked her would she assist me with going door to door to make sales of Angel Wing Sauce. My daughter obliged me and that’s what we did. The name of Angel Wing Sauce became popular and I had to get approved to do commercial sales so I went on to NC State University to get my certificate in Manufacturing Acidified Foods. I sent my recipe to the Food Lab to be tested and approved to be able to sell commercially, so now we sell Angel Wings Sauce in nine stores on the east coast and we sell on our website Angelwingsauce.com. We have a flavor called Blood of Jesus rib sauce that is being beta tested and we also have a candle and Grill Gift boxes. We also offer the Angel Wings Sauce original recipe in a squeeze bottle on our website. The problem I solve for my customers are saving money on eating out, I Supply them with a great ingredient that they can add to their recipes at home to make delicious dishes. What sets me apart from other sauce makers and people in the sauce industry is that I didn’t go directly to a co-packer, I manufactured my product at home which saves me a lot of money and I didn’t get into debt before I even started selling my sauce. I am most proud of becoming the first black woman to own a hot sauce business in North Carolina and I would like my followers to know that Angel Wing Sauce is dedicated to providing quality hot sauce to our customers we believe in using the best ingredients and we just want to be known for quality product around the world for generations to come. I love all of my Angel Wings Sauce customers and supporters and I know that we will be nothing without their support.

How’d you meet your business partner?

Yes! my co-founder is actually my daughter so not only did I produce and create Angel Wing Sauce I created my co-founder as well LOL she has been an awesome partner with me in business and she actually has something she would like to say;

After awhile, I became the #1 seller of our business.We began to become really popular so I started our twitter page. Then after a few years I began to expand our social media pages.Angel Wing Sauce has always been apart of my life at a young age. I’ve watched it grow. I’m glad that I can share in the success with someone so close to me.Having a business with my mother that we started from scratch is both rewarding and inspirational. To know that Madame CJ Walker had a daughter who helped her as well. lets me know that we can make strides in this sauce industry together!

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

Yes there was a time duing the Covid-19 Pandemic that mason jars were at a shortage all mason jar manufacturers were not able to produce for some time. I was determined not to let my customers down so during this shortage of mason jars my sales went higher because people were stuck in the house and they were forced to cook, so I rode around town to five stores one time to fulfill an order of Angel Wing Sauce.I had to do this for several orders duing the Covid 19 Pandemic.This showed my resilience and my determination to not let my customers down.
