We recently connected with Brittany Frazier and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I came up with the name Gifted Hands from clients and family. People would always tell me how gifted I was with styling hair. I work with my hands a lot so I just added hands to gifted. And the name stucked.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started my hair journey back in 2009 my senior year in high school. I went to a career school outside of my home school in the mornings called Woodville Tompkins. Initially I went for Early child care but didn’t like it so I got switched to cosmetology. And I instantly feel in love with it. After high school I went Savannah Technical College for cosmetology, passed my state board exam, and started taking clients at my house. The beginning was so hard because I’m fresh out of school and the only clients I had were family and friends. And who would trust someone new to the industry to do their hair. So I started doing $25 specials on updos, $40 Quickweaves, $60 Sewins just to start building my clientele. Business was still slow. So I got a job at my local beauty supply store and only stayed there for 3 weeks. Then I quit because I knew it wasn’t for me. So I came up with different ways to market myself business cards, then Instagram and Facebook came out so I started posting pictures of my work! And more and more clients started to book. One thing that’s sets me apart from others is my customer service. I’m very professional , on time, fast, and very knowledgeable about the services I offer. I’m not the stylist that shows up 30 minutes to a hour late to service you. I get you in and out because who wants to sit in the hair salon all day.
I’m most proud of my strength! You have to be very strong to work in this industry and with being a business owner. Everyday or week won’t be the same. I can make $500 one day and $65 the next. $1,500 one week $200 the next. We have our slow seasons and fast seasons. But through it all I continue to remain humble.
My salon just celebrated 5 years in business! These past 5 years have truly made me see how blessed I am to be able to service clients that’s been rocking with me since cosmetology school. My journey in this industry is just beginning and I can’t wait to see where it goes.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by posting pictures and videos of hairstyles I create. Then once I share my friends or followers would repost or share my post. So people I’m not friends with will see my post and add me as a friend. You just have to be consistent with posting content to gain friends and followers on different platforms.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I currently send out coupons, newsletters and updates to my clients that book me through my website.
