We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittany Dailey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about the best advice you’ve ever given to a client? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
The best advice a client has ever given me was to stop putting myself last in practice. It was something I had to work on but it helped me to prioritize my health and self to be more beneficial to business mentally and physically.
I am a natural people pleaser to a point it was draining me mentally and physically. My client whom I have become super close with noticed the change. I guess it was very apparent I was struggling during services to keep a genuine smile on my face. She let me know that even though customer service is key in my industry it doesn’t mean I put myself on the back burner to satisfy my clients. Just as they prioritize themselves I should always do the same.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Brittany Dailey, I am a licensed esthetician who specializes in corrective skin. My passion is healing and correcting skin in the African American community. Reason being is because even though esthetics has been around for quite some time it’s new to our community. Educating has been the highlight of my career in such a short time.
I started my career as a makeup artist 10 years ago but skin was alway priority to me. Life was getting ahead of me and I finally made the sacrifice to drop everything and pursue my dream as an esthetician. Here we are 3 years laters changing the outlook on skin health.
I try my best to stay educated as way to be disciplined in my business. Keeping a schedule and writing out my plans. If I don’t see it, it doesn’t exist. Sad but true , I blame my adhd lol. It works the same for my craft.
At Breathe Skin and Co. we specialize in chemical peels, custom facials and dietary health education. Also we have some add ons such as body waxing. I want the person who leaves my spa to feel brand new. It’s all about them!
I’ve figured out that because I’m welcoming from the first encounter it allows my client to feel safe with me. I know about their lives and dreams. I love hearing about their woes and accomplishments, we figure things out together. My clients literally turn to family for the most part. In my opinion it’s what sets me apart. The vibe is just different if I must say so myself. I love them!
I’m most proud of the commitment my clients take on after we start the skin care journey. The results from the commitment of past and present clients is what I want potential clients to see. We work together. You’re never on the journey alone. And the results are AMAZING.
I am so invested in building self esteem and renewing the faith in the skin health industry. I’ve witnessed so many clients go to dermatologist for years and months without ever feeling heard. Continuing on with appointments to get no results, giving up. That breaks my heart on so many levels so I committed myself to change that outlook that you aren’t being heard and that the skin couldn’t be fixed because of the color of your skin. I always want my client no matter the race or gender to feel safe with me. You will be heard, you will be taken care of.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I started my business in the middle of the pandemic like most working in my 2 bedroom apartment. I had given away my my kitchen dining set to set up shop trust me the area was tiny. For 2 years I made it work with strangers as clients coming in and out my home. I didn’t give up. And now I own my first 1200 sq. ft. spa that caters on a personal intimate level.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Yes, yes, yes! But actually I would have gone to med school to become a dermatologist to do more! But I don’t regret where I am. Nursing school next to elevate this dream!
