We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittany Czarnecki a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
Appreciating my clients and understanding that they are what leads to the success of my business is the basis I have always built my business on. To name just one way I show my clients how much I appreciate them, I look at them as a friend instead of a transaction. I have experienced clients going through hardships in life such as divorce, losing family, and temporary financial issues. And sometimes, due to these hardships, I will comp their service fee just to show how much I love and care for them. I give my clients the grace that I would hope someone would give me in unexpected situations. I truly love each and every person that walks through my door and always strive to connect with every individual on a personal level. These past five years of getting to know my amazing clients, that I now consider as friends, has made my career the best it could ever be.
Brittany, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Brittany Czarnecki and I am the owner of CZAR Microblading. I got into the cosmetic tattoo industry five years ago and I would like to think it was fate. When I first began, microblading was just starting to become popular and more mainstream. I was absolutely terrified when I finished training. Prior to training, I had been a stay at home mom for the previous 4 years and I was craving a creative outlet to find my identity, my passion, and a career. I charged my training and start-up fees on a credit card and took the risk with the support of my husband. After my initial training, I quickly realized I needed more training to build my confidence and skill level. I decided to commit to the process of learning with not only practice, but other training courses.
Building a clientele took time as it always does. I started out working one day a week at my friend’s salon and she was gracious enough to let me pay per client (thanks Angie!) to help me get started. I practiced doing ten sets of brows on fake skin every night, took more training courses, messaged questions to famous artists, and attended PMU events. Eventually, I sacrificed weekends with my family as I was able to fill up entire weekends with brow clients. Through word of mouth my business started to get busier!
Flash forward to today, my books are packed solid. My clients are the backbone to my business and I am a full time cosmetic tattoo artist currently focusing on microblading, powder/microshading, hybrid brows, combo brows and lip blushing. I have recently started training for areola tattooing and cannot wait to eventually add this service into my portfolio.
If there was anything I would want people to know, it is that hard work and believing in the dream is key. You can do whatever you put your mind to.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
When I first decided to take the leap into this industry, I was so scared! I was a stay-at-home mom for the previous four years to my two boys (one who has Autism and ADHD). Financially, I could not afford to pay for the training. We were living paycheck to paycheck and budgeting to stay financially stable. After talking with my husband, who has always believed in and supported me, we decided to charge my training and start-up costs to a no interest credit card and go for it. It was the scariest thing I had ever done.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
100% word of mouth! Treat your clients like friends and actually care for them and their opinion! I never once paid for an advertisement while building!
