We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Cruse recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
We all want to freeze time don’t we? After bringing our first daughter into the world, we finally understood what people meant when they said time flies. We blink and our baby is taking her first steps, saying her first words, tumbling around at her first gymnastics meet. We realized that we wanted to be able to take these big moments and freeze them into images that we could look back on as heirlooms. Documenting our own family became something that we fell in love with and the results became addicting. Beautiful images of memories we will hold onto forever. That’s how Brittany Cruse Photography began. I wanted to be able to create these magical stills for others. I photograph every milestone from newborns to wedding days. I enjoy photographing every milestone from those sweet, wrinkly baby toes, a father walking his daughter down the aisle to the groom emotionally waiting for her to be his forever. These are just a few of the many moments I aim to capture.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Our photography business was started in 2018 by my husband, Caleb. Caleb has experience in Graphic Design and was interested in learning more about photography. We have a good family friend who’s photography we loved and so she begin to teach us things about the camera and how to create a “good” image. We purchased our very first DSLR to take photos of our daughter’s first birthday and we were hooked! We fell in love with creating images! After attending several workshops and being a part of numerous styled shoots, we began to shoot our own weddings. 5 years later here we are with so much growth and we couldn’t be more thankful. Many of our clients love that our work is “timeless” and a style that won’t be dated when they show their photos to their children and grandchildren one day. Others love that we combine traditional portraits with movement in our images.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Service. Being Kind. Truly taking time to learn about my clients and getting to know them. Word of mouth has been our biggest booking tool. We try to give our clients the best experience out there.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
We now have three children which has changed a lot of things with our business. I (Brittany) pretty much do all of the shooting and editing while Caleb (my husband helps with the marketing). When we had our third child, I just didn’t have the time to do all of the editing myself so we started outsourcing. Outsourcing has been one of the best decisions. I can get images to my clients even sooner and have more time to spend with our kids.
