We recently connected with Brittany Cooper and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brittany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
This past December I enrolled in a six week workshop to learn the basics of glass mosaic. I expected to be slightly overwhelmed by the tedious process but I received it as more of a meditative experience. The intricate and thoughtful application of each piece of glass caused me to overthink at times. I took that as a lesson to slow down and allow what I perceive as a “mistake” just to happen. When learning a new craft or medium you have to surrender any harsh criticism and pessimism during the process. Art in any form is solely about making something that stimulates a conversation and resonates with the viewers.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Brittany Cooper and I am a Fines Arts graduate of Texas Woman’s University. I was unsure of how to apply my art degree in the real world but I knew that I wanted to keep the creative juices flowing. Despite not having the adequate workspace to continue my oil painting, I adapted and found new ways to create. After graduating I continued my creative work and participated in a number of local shows in the DFW area. I would describe myself as a visual artist working primarily in watercolor, oil, and glass. Currently my goal is to start a mosaic content channel on Youtube as a way to share my learning progress and connecting with other aspiring artists. I may not be a full time artist but I strive to keep that creative flame lit in hopes that I can one day offer work with a lasting impression.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The best part of being an artist is creating both successful and unsuccessful artwork. My creative making process can present a vivid story of personal growth, experimentation and change. Each piece within my portfolio or creative journal holds a deep significance in my artistic identity.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My main mission this year is to immerse myself in as many creative workshops as possible. For me, learning new creative processes and exploring different mediums is the equivalent of a life boost. I feel that it is crucial for becoming an established artist but also for my personal well being.
