Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittany Cooper. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brittany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Being a business owner isn’t easy but I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. I truly get to wake up everyday and do what I love. I honestly try not to think what it would be like to have a regular job. My dedication to my firm consist of working so hard that I never have to think about working for someone else. Despite the long hours, the financial stresses, and the general difficulty of running your own company, my mission in life is to create an empire in the world of design. Where people can truly be themselves and never have to worry about what life would be like doing something that they do not enjoy. I live my life each and everyday full of motivation to be a better business owner, a better person and most of all a better interior designer.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
After high school, North Carolina native Brittany Cooper hightailed to Los Angeles, California to pursue a career in the arts. While in college at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, she discovered not just a passion for interior design, but also an appreciation for the California aesthetic one based on an organic connection with the outdoors. Over the years, Brittany has developed and accumulated years of experience in the field and can help each client see the outcome long before a project has even begun.
Integrating my design ideas with team members on the execution of high end residential and commercial design projects, I use my expertise with design tools such as AutoCAD to draft architectural plans and elevations. Having keen attention to detail and unparalleled organizational skills enables me to manage all aspects of the business. Here at Rathell Designs, we have created a West Coast-inspired firm bringing all the aesthetics that we love to the Carolinas.
In the year of 2012, Brittany opened five women’s boutiques in the Southeast region. My very first peak into the industry came from commercial design with interior boutique retail spaces. From this very moment I have not looked back since and truly proud of how far I’ve come. My main goal at my firm is to allow clients to enjoy an experience of a lifetime from start to finish. We take pride in all that we do and it truly warms my heart. Even so, the design process is an intimate one, and I acknowledge the challenge and privilege of working in clients’ innermost spaces. I love what I do every day, and we love that people enjoy the experience through it all. Good design takes time!
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
The biggest advice I can give is let your team shine in all aspects. Being a business owner sometimes your creative brain may take a backseat running the business and funneling all the other aspects that come with being a leader and that is ok. It takes a village to run a business and there is no I in TEAM. The key is to stay consistent to who you are and the rest will follow.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Creating a social media platform can be challenging and scary at times. I have learned to create my social media platform with honesty, creativity and most of all personality. Don’t be afraid to be you throughout the process and tell your story through imagery or videos. You never know who is watching and inspired by all the things you are doing.
