We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brittany Brown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brittany below.
Brittany , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
I strive to provide my followers with genuine recommendations based on my own experiences, therefore I do not charge the direct businesses for a spot on my social media pages. I also refrain from going about it via this method as I feel like it lessens my review as my opinion then becomes “bought” and less valuable. Plus, I always want to make helping the businesses and Small Town America my number one priority. Instead, I have built my platform to rely on overhead sponsorships that will not interfere with the authenticity of my posts.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Brittany and I run the @brittaroundtown social media pages and brittaroundtown.com. I am what I like to call an “Arbiter of Local Culture” and create user generated content to help support small businesses and small town travel.
I have always lived life with a camera in my hand. Back in 2019, I discovered a way to use that trait to help those in my community by sharing my life experience with others on social media to help support our community. I began posting about my visits to restaurants, retail locations and other destinations in order to give firsthand recommendations to others. This took off rather quickly as only months after beginning my platform, the pandemic hit. People then started coming to my page to find what businesses were open for take out, who you could order online from and things you could safely do during this time. I had businesses credit me for keeping them open during the pandemic because of the increased exposure and others thanked me for allowing them to live through my adventures during a time when they felt so secluded from the rest of the world. Hearing all this feedback quickly became my “why” and I knew that it was something that I had to dedicate more time and attention to. In the time that Britt Around Town has been in existence, my media channels have grown to a following of more than 10.3k people who trust and value my opinion—and continue to grow weekly!
In a time when online shopping and Amazon trucks are taking over the local scene, Britt Around Town has renewed interest in local tourism, highlighting small businesses through my experience based on my adventures. My postings are firsthand experiences in which I give recommendations to Britt Around Town followers and Instagram surfers, just as I would my closest family and friends. This brings much needed revenue to businesses (both brick & mortar as well as online) and small towns.
My dream is to expand my visits and travels – bringing light to small towns all across the United States.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part about what I do is hearing how it effects the lives of those around me. There is no greater feeling than hearing a business thank me for bringing them new clients and telling me that people mention that they stopped by based on my recommendation. I also love hearing people tell me that they never knew that a place existed until I had posted about it. It truly warms my heart.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Just recently, I gave up my full time job to pursue content creation and my passion full time. I was getting so busy running my page, traveling and networking that I knew I had to give it my best shot. It was a big leap of faith I’m still hoping that my business will become as successful as I know it can be. The hardest part is trying to find sponsorships when I’m taking an already relatively new concept and going about it in an even newer way. I’m working extra hard to prove my worth, break the stigma and set myself apart from the normal “influencer” term.
