We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittany ‘Bre’ Anderson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany ‘Bre’, appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I was battling depression after my grandfathers passing. And I would sit over at his house, and just rummage through his old things. He was known as a “medicine man” – always having a herbal/botanical cure for almost all ailments, pains, and more. One day as I was going through things, I’d stumbled across a container full of African Shea Butter. And we were familiar with is as kids; instead of Vaseline or lotion, he would always be seen using the “yellow stuff” as we called it, as kids. Then, he’d always had a house full of medicinal and herbal plants, so I took a heaping amount of the aloe vera that he’d had and the shea, and got to work. After a few testings, I’d finally perfected the recipe, of the infamous Body Buddah that I offer my seasoned #GlowGetters and new comers, daily! When I first started, I honestly didn’t think that it would have as much as an impact, that it does. But it did! And still does. And I’m forever grateful for it! The greatest risk, to date! And I’ll do it again and again, given the chance.

Brittany ‘Bre’, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Bre! 31-year-old skincare enthusiast, business owner, mom, and scholar. I’ve owned and operated my skincare business for 6 years and counting! Like many, I was first introduced to skincare around my middle school years, where we were slathering the St. Ives Apricot Scrub all over our faces, tearing our skin up. Or, the renowned Proactiv era, which also did more damage than aiding. By time I’d gotten into high school, I was so insecure about my skin, the breakouts, the unevenness and everything in between, that I’d just pile makeup on, or compromise my skin barrier by trying almost everything that the internet was suggesting. The skincare chaos was real. Fast forward to 2017, after my grandfathers passing, I’d found myself staring to mix and tweak recipes using natural ingredients and plant medicines, until I’d finally perfected the formula mid-2019. By the end of 2019 For Us had taken off. After posting my own results, going from hyper pigmented, pimple faced, irritated skin, to glowing, healthier, more supple looking skin; business started booming! I was ecstatic.
So many people believed and continue to believe and support the products that I create. Along the way, I’ve added more products, that customers have hinted at wanting a more holistic/natural alternative to, and they’ve all been hits!
What sets me apart from other in my industry is that I’m for the people. The money and recognition is nice as well, but having customers who are appreciative of the products that I curate and at a reasonable price cost, that begets actual results, is all the reassurance that I need. I know first hand how it felt to always be trying to “cover up” or hide imperfections and blemishes. But, to be able to walk around confidently in your own skin, is the real prize! And I want that for all the people – men, women, boys, and girls! When you look good, you feel good. And I wholeheartedly stand by that. Along with being for the people, I’m also big on the integrity of ingredients that I use in production. I’ve stayed away from using preservatives for 6+ years, no alcohols, acids, or those alike. Just plant-powered ingredients, with results to show!
I’m most proud of showing others that it can be done! If you stick to the plan, take the risk, and persevere through the obstacles, the reward will definitely be worth it. It doesn’t happen overnight and some days are better than others, but helping others feel more confident, radiant, and happy about their skin is a win, to me!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What I think helped build my reputation within my market, is being authentic, understanding, and for the people! I’d grown up around entrepreneurs, my mother and grandfather, being the sole ones. My grandfather always had a way with people, because he was always so transparent and authentically himself, and I admired how people clung to that. He was also reasonable. He would give people ‘deals’ when they were right on funds, or barter services, so that the consumer could get what they’d wanted in exchange for offering some type of goods/services that would benefit him as well. I loved this about my grandfather, and seeing that so many people loved him, I was sure to implement it into my business practices. Being transparent, understanding, honest, and respectful goes a long way. I didn’t understand as a child, when he would exclaim: “The customer is always right” but I get it now. Satisfied customers always come back and pass the word along, and that there has helped my business tremendously (word of mouth, good reputation, and great business ethics)

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Before I’d started my business venture, as stated before, I was battling deep depression, after my grandfathers passing. In that depression, I began reading literature on peace, discipline, discovering yourself after a set-back or loss, and about successful business owners. And I can attest that every single one of those books aided in my healing and business journey. I’d read books by wealthy business individuals and studied what they’d did. Read up on what worked for them and what didn’t. Books from authors like Dave Ramsey, Napoleon Hill, and Robert T. Kiyosaki. All of these authors and many more helped tremendously in terms of building great business rapport and keeping consumers coming back. I’m always eager to recommend these authors and their works of literature.
