Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittany Bonine. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
My husband and I started doing Spartan races when we were first married. In doing so, we became competitive in OCR and wanted to build our own training gym and a small area on our property with obstacles. Now, we live in a small town and when we would tell people where we lived, we often got the question “Okay, so what’s that behind your barn?” We had monkey bars, walls, spear throw targets and a variety of grip obstacles that we would practice. on As we gradually built our personal gym bigger, we had everything we needed to train! Fast forward to the pandemic and gyms being shut down, we found ourselves hosting friends and family in our barn/outdoor gym. After many training sessions together and training with friends and family who had no experience in fitness, we got the idea that maybe this is what our little small town of Waller needed – a functional fitness gym in which fitness was made available for everyone, regardless of their skill level! Making efficient workouts available for anyone, from beginner to advanced, is how Bold Fitness came to life!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Being from a small town, my parents kept me and my siblings involved in a multitude of things. I played sports and showed animals growing up and as I got older, chose soccer as my sport of passion. I played in high school, club level and college and then focused on my education and becoming a dental hygienist. A degree in dental hygiene has a lot of emphasis on science; anatomy and nutrition really peeked my interest. I was active in the gym throughout school and when I graduated dental hygiene school, I joined CrossFit. I was hooked. It fueled my competitiveness and kept me in shape! When I changed jobs and we moved back to Waller, I joined a local CrossFit gym, got my coaching certification and began coaching. After our first child, I realized that I needed a change in programming. I explored various other functional fitness gyms, my absolute favorite coach being Cassidy Nicholas who coached a virtual Epic Interval Training class! It was through my variety of training styles and a mesh of various programming, that I found what Waller was missing!
I completed my personal training certificate and decided I was going to bring fitness to Waller, in a different way. I was going to open a gym designed for the everyday person, who may or may not have impaired movements, previous injuries, etc. A gym that if you walked in straight off the couch and wanted to workout, we would get your started. A gym that if you were a senior, just looking to stay active and gain mobility – we would be able to help you! A gym that if you were a competitive athlete, could do the same workout that a 74 year old was doing and gain the same benefits. A gym that had workouts efficiently programmed and catered to parents and busy individuals, allowing you to get a great workout in 45-60 minutes! That’s how Bold Fitness was born and that’s what we are most proud of – being able to bring fitness to any and everyone, regardless of their background or age!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Being from a small town, the immense support from our community is what has really helped to build our brand! As owners and coaches, we focus on creating a welcoming and safe environment for members to work towards their health and fitness goals. Our members are very like-minded and we are very community driven. Our members want each other to succeed just as much as they want to succeed and that is apparent, not only within our gym, but on social media as well. We celebrate each members milestones and post/share that with others via social media, because there may be someone watching who is in that same starting place and not knowing what to do to reach their goals. We share the real, the raw and the fun – making sure that what you see on social media and what you experience in person are exactly the same.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
We are a very family oriented, positive and community driven facility and really just want to be a light for those who may be timid or unsure of how to start with their journey towards better health and fitness. Our team of coaches are local to the area and are very much aligned with our core values. Finding people who fit your values, helps to maintain our high morale.
