We recently connected with Brittany Bishop and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
I truly believe that every client deserves a meaningful tattoo experience and a piece of art that lasts a lifetime. I take great care in understanding the story and significance behind each design, ensuring that every detail is thoughtfully executed. I’m deeply grateful for the support I’ve received throughout my journey, and as a way of giving back, I offer free or discounted sessions to those who have been a part of my growth. It’s my way of saying thank you and showing how much I appreciate each and every person who trusts me with their vision.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Before stepping into the tattoo industry, I spent years working with various artistic mediums like pencil, paint, and digital art. Through hard work and dedication, I’ve refined my skills to focus on precision and detail. My goal is to provide a welcoming and comfortable studio environment where every client feels at home and enjoys a unique, personal experience. More than anything, I take pride in seeing the joy on my clients’ faces after a session. I want each person to not only leave with a beautiful tattoo but also with a sense of comfort and connection an experience that feels like a true escape through ink therapy.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Before I was able to pursue tattooing and art full-time, I worked a number of temp jobs while holding onto the hope that one day my art could sustain me. During that time, I stayed consistent drawing every day, sharing my work online, and slowly building connections with local supporters. I was fortunate to receive opportunities from people who believed in my work, which helped me grow both creatively and professionally.
When I began my tattoo apprenticeship, I faced a lot of challenges. The shift from paper to skin was challenging, and it took time to build confidence. But with persistence, guidance, and the encouragement of those around me, I began to find my flow. Over time, I developed a style rooted in fine line detail and 3D black and grey work something that came from a lot of trial, error, and patience.
Thanks to the continued support of my clients and a deep commitment to improving my craft, I’ve been able to open my own private studio something I don’t take for granted. I believe what truly sets my work apart isn’t just the technique, but the care, intention, and attention to detail I put into every session. I’m genuinely thankful for this journey and for everyone who has played a part in helping me grow.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
One of the most effective ways I’ve grown my clientele has been through consistent posting across all platforms. I focus on sharing close-up photos and videos of each tattoo, offering a behind the scenes look into the studio and the process behind every piece. By including both fresh and healed images, I aim to give potential clients a clear and honest view of the work, which has helped build trust and made it easier for new clients to feel confident about booking with me.
