We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittany Beattie a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany , appreciate you joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
“Speak to your children as if they are the wisest, kindest, most beautiful and magical humans on earth, for what they believe is what they will become”. -Brooke Hampton
Growing up my parents were my heroes. As I grew older, I began to see them as humans who were doing the best they could in circumstances where they were also learning, making mistakes, and growing as individuals. What has been most impactful for me amongst the stability and support they provided is their belief in me and encouragement to DREAM BIG. They have always believed in me to do great things, believed that I’m special, believed that I am influential and unique and that has given me the freedom and permission to believe the same about myself. This set the foundation for me to find the perfect partner for myself who has the same unwavering belief in me as well as himself and sets the foundation for how we parent our daughter. It also set the foundation for me in my current career as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in private practice helping women navigate the multiple roles and challenges that life’s transitions bring allowing them to live a healthy and fulfilling life.
Life as an entrepreneur is daunting, lonely, scary, and unpredictable. It takes belief in something greater, courage, support, tolerance of the unknown, confidence, and intrinsic value to work through the obstacles that will undoubtedly come when owning a business. As a business owner, I have to believe in myself. I have to believe in what I am doing in order to allow myself to be vulnerable enough to connect with others, face rejection, build partnerships. And I also have to rely on my support system (husband, daughter, parents) to continue to believe in me when it becomes hard to believe in myself. It is true that “Behind every young child that believes in themself is a parent who believed first”. So to me, the biggest gift my parents gave me is believing in me that grew into me believing in myself.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m Brittany! I am the founder and CEO of Blossom Forward LLC.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida. I help women as they navigate the multiple roles and challenges that life’s transitions bring allowing them to live a healthy and fulfilling life. I help women who are experiencing anxiety and depression due to the changes that we experience upon entering young adulthood and motherhood. Women who are used to “having it all together”, who identify as the “strong friend”, who are secretly yearning for a shoulder that they can lean on. Blossom Forward’s mission is to provide a space for women who are navigating multiple roles and challenges with life transitions so that they feel safe, seen, heard and free of judgment in order to find and maintain your unique identity. We do this by offering quality individualized counseling services.
I value my roles as a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend while also growing and continuing to learn myself as being individually and uniquely me. Like with many other women, motherhood changed my life completely. I am a better person because of it but it has also come with its challenges. I am a NICU mom and the experience of a traumatic pregnancy and birth changed my outlook on mental health, motherhood, and life. Although I was a mental health counselor before motherhood, motherhood helped me hone in on my purpose as a mental health professional. I want to help other mothers navigate the changes and lessons in life that motherhood brings. I want to help young women work through finding their identity as they enter new relationships, maintain friendships, and enter into their careers.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and We Should All Be Millionaires by Rachel Rodgers have been game changers for me. They both deal with believing in one’s self and journey, mindset shifts, and perseverance.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Hands down, building relationships. In counseling, the relationship is the most important aspect of treatment and I would argue that the same is true for business. I love meeting people and learning from them. I love learning from others but I also love offering my own unique perspectives so that they can learn and be inspired from me.
