We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Basco recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. Over the course of your career, have you seen or experienced your field completely flip-flop or change course on something?
The biggest U-turn in my field was when I experienced a head injury that changed my life.
After almost three years of struggling with a head injury, I came to a profound realization about a year ago. Our bodies possess an incredible amount of wisdom, and we should take the time to understand their unique patterns before seeking outside help. What if we paid closer attention to our bodies and took preventative measures before things got worse? One possible reason for not doing so is that we underestimate the incredible power of our intuition.
Its not a short or easy process to break free from the hands of societal norms of what it is like to be successful. We are expected to know how to process and handle pain emotionally and physically, but we are never told how. The medical health field separates the body and mind.
Currently, I am dreaming of creating a therapy practice through movement and experience. Where all senses are activated in a way that moves emotional energy through the body using the elements of the earth.
Imagine a somatic, therapeutic experience that emphasizes the power of the body-mind connection, transcends mere conversation, and engages your entire being. A place where art and movement work together to create healing, elevate your spirit, and transform the way you process emotions.
Brittany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I will be creating a retreat that helps others create techniques to heal using the elements of the earth.
What if you came to therapy and it turned into an entire body experience?
Do you feel lost or stuck in your pursuit of a vision? Are you struggling to achieve the results you desire? Often, we’re not fully aware of what our goals are, and we need to take an active role in shaping our lives, instead of letting life happen to us. Prevention is key. Learning to identify symptoms and triggers early on helps manage the outcomes.
Allow yourself to embark on a journey where you connect with the elements of the earth, explore your emotions, and have the opportunity to connect deeper on a spiritual level with yourself.
I offer integrative sessions that incorporate somatic therapy principles and various mind-body techniques to help release pent-up emotions that may be causing damage to your body and mind with the option of capturing it as a photoshoot. In today’s fast-paced world, we often lose touch with our senses and ourselves by disregarding the needs of our nervous system in our pursuit of success. Our emotions can become trapped in our bodies and stored, causing stress, anxiety, and fear. Imagine letting the ocean move your energy through you while the waves swish around you while you pour your heart into the sand, allowing emotions to move through you. Experience the warmth of the sun’s embrace and the wild freedom of the wind in your hair.
By using the elements of the earth and breathing in the ocean blue, you can set fire to the desire of the moon and light up the fire within you.
Free to express yourself in any way you desire, without any limitations or restrictions. Letting your thoughts and emotions flow naturally.
Embodiment sessions offer a powerful combination of playfulness, full embodiment, and somatic healing. These sessions can help you release emotions that may be holding you back, so you can move forward and achieve your goals with ease.
Playfulness, full embodiment, and somatic healing are all part of the embodiment sessions to help you release emotions to move forward to achieve your goals.
Things I provide help with:
– Learning to Self-Regulate (Being able to identify and respond to emotions, behaviors, and triggers)
– Psychological Flexibility
– Getting clear on your vision
– Strategies to be a more effective decision-maker
– Being proactive (preventative strategies before the behavior can occur)
– Setting goals
– Managing time
– Relationships
– Getting specific on what your focus is
– Executive Functioning (planning, working memory, attention, problem-solving, verbal reasoning, inhibition, mental flexibility, multi-tasking, initiation, and monitoring of actions)
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Live authentically. Taking care of your mind, body, and spirit is the key to living a fulfilling life and being successful in any field. Make a conscious effort to discover yourself, and carve out time for self-reflection. When you prioritize your own well-being, you’ll find that not only are you happier and healthier, but you’ll be able to spread positivity and help others in a more meaningful way. This starts with the basics of sleep, exercise, eating healthy, and getting into nature.
