Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittany Barclay. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents are a huge part in my life. I even live next door to them. I’ve always had two loving parents that were there no matter what. They encourage me to achieve goals and are always there to help in any way they can.
My dad is in construction and I would go to work with him and help at his various jobs. I knew what a work ethic was watching him. He always told me “If you’re doing a job regardless of it’s size, do it to the best of your ability or don’t do it at all.” He would nitpick things that no one else would notice but he noticed and it needed to be fixed. He would never turn over a job unless it was 110% perfect. He taught me that doing good honest work is all there is to do.
My mom worked so hard all her life in human resources and moved up the ladder until her retirement. She works hard and efficient in everything she does. She has shown me to pay attention and see what someone needs before they ask. She had all of the reports done or all the files in order because she knew her boss would ask for them. She’s also shown me that regardless if it’s in your job description, if it needs to be done, pitch in and help. She does this all the time to those around her and always full of love.
I have been a wedding and boudoir photographer for many years and I know my work ethic, being honest, helping others, and serving my couples/clients, is all that I care about thanks to my parents. I will go the extra mile for people and do it because I’m being helpful. Especially at weddings! There are so many moving parts and I will do whatever is needed to ensure my couples have the best day ever. I love serving others and capturing moments.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
It all started when a friend of mine asked me to help her coordinate a wedding. I had just finished my certification as a wedding planner and I wanted to have experience. I got everyone down the aisle and helped her coordinate family photos. I enjoyed being around weddings so much! A week or so later, she asked me to come again and I was thrilled. She told me to bring my camera and I thought she was nuts. I took photos because I liked it but never thought I would want to do it for a living. Well, she bought me several rolls of film and I very nervously helped photograph the wedding. I had the best time and really loved every moment of it. She got the photos back and we went through them and she told me this is what I needed to do. That I had an eye for it. I worked alongside her for a year and learned a digital camera.
I have been going ever since and my love just grows for photography and weddings. I love the chaos and fast-paced of wedding days. I’ve gathered so much knowledge over the years and help in any way I can to create the best day ever for couples.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Having a positive reputation is all I want within the wedding community. I strive to be honest and go above and beyond at every wedding. Each client’s needs are different but I will do everything in my power to help make their day flawless. I’ve had a few hiccups arise that I was able to fix before the bride knew about it. I fixed many dress malfunctions, sewed buttons back on, help redesign bouquets when the bride hated them, cut wedding cakes, buss tables, and help my brides calm down when they were so stressed and everything in between.
Your reputation is all that anyone hears about prior to hiring you. When several vendors recommend me, that says so much to me. I love knowing that I can be so helpful and a positive experience for couples on the best day of their lives.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
This is so simple. It’s word of mouth! Having several vendors in different categories constantly recommend you, it speaks volumes knowing that venues, wedding planners, DJ’s, makeup artists, videographers, etc. say your name when asked about wedding photographers. It’s such a huge compliment when past couples recommend me as well. I love knowing that they had a wonderful experience with me.
