We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Arnett recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve ever worked on is, without a doubt, this entire business endeavor. It’s so much more than a career—it’s a deeply personal journey that has shaped my life in countless ways.
This business has given me the incredible opportunity to stay home and be present with my daughter during her formative years. Being able to balance my professional aspirations with the priceless moments of watching her grow has been an indescribable gift. Every decision I’ve made, every challenge I’ve faced, and every victory I’ve celebrated through this venture has been intertwined with my role as a parent.
Beyond the personal impact, this project has also allowed me to channel my creativity, connect with others, and make a difference in the lives of my clients and customers. Knowing that my work resonates with and inspires others only deepens the meaning it holds for me. It’s proof that pursuing your passion, while building a life that reflects your values, is one of the most rewarding things you can do.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Sure my name is B, and I am the owner and artist behind The Dappled wood, where we create handmade faux stone and floral polymer clay earrings and accessories using premium hypoallergenic metals. My business dares people to be as bold as nature, encouraging them to embrace their individuality and make a statement through with their ear art. Each piece is thoughtfully designed to capture the beauty of nature, without it’s destruction, through bold textures and vibrant colors that bring an artistic touch to everyday accessories.
This business began as a way to channel my creativity while staying true to my values—craftsmanship, quality, and a connection to nature. I wanted to create something more than just jewelry, something that celebrates individuality and empowers people to express themselves in a daring, yet authentic ways. By using premium hypoallergenic materials, I also ensure that my pieces are accessible to everyone, blending beauty and comfort seamlessly.
What I’m most proud of is how this journey has allowed me to inspire others, both through my designs and my story. From people who feel empowered wearing my pieces to those who’ve been inspired to embrace their own creative journeys, the connections I’ve built are what make this work so meaningful. At its heart, my brand is about more than wearable art—it’s about celebrating fearlessness, creativity, and the natural beauty all around us.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned on my creative journey is that progress is better than perfect. Nature itself is beautifully flawed—no two leaves are identical, no stone is perfectly smooth—and that’s where its charm lies. As a jewelry artist, I’ve had to embrace the idea that creativity and art are inherently imperfect—an ironic lesson for someone with type A tendencies who once believed precision and perfection were the ultimate goals. But in reality, uniformity is not the goal; the true aim is to celebrate the individuality and character that make each piece special.
This lesson has also shaped how I market to my customers. In the past, I would overthink every post, obsessing over whether the lighting was perfect or if the caption was just right. Now, I am trying to focus on being authentic and showing up consistently, even if it means posting something that feels less than perfect. What I’ve found is that my audience values the connection and the honesty far more than a flawless execution.
Letting go of perfectionism has allowed me to grow both as an artist and as a business owner. It’s a reminder that creativity thrives in imperfection, and progress is what truly moves us forward.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the connection I’m able to create with others through my work. There’s something really special about knowing that a piece I’ve designed resonates with someone on a personal level—whether it’s a pair of earrings that makes them feel confident, a gift that becomes a treasured memory, or simply a design that sparks joy.
Another deeply fulfilling part of this journey is the creative freedom I get to explore every day. Being able to take inspiration from nature and turn it into something tangible that others can wear and appreciate is a very rewarding experience. It’s about more than just creating beautiful accessories; it’s about sharing a part of myself and encouraging others to embrace their boldness and individuality.
What I’ve found most rewarding, though, is the ripple effect of my work. When someone shares how wearing one of my pieces has empowered them to step out of their comfort zone or feel more like themselves, it reminds me why I do what I do. Those moments of connection and impact are what make this creative journey so meaningful.
