Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittani Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brittani, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
Whenever I am thinking of what I wanted to be remembered for when I leave, I think of the things I am doing for others, plus some things I do for myself that correlates to positive effects on others. Building a strong legacy to leave behind when I am no longer here is why I continue to stay focused on the present. I actually pay attention to the way I relate and inspire others in the PRESENT. The reality is that I care today for things that may happen after I do leave which I feel its perfectly normal to think about that. Most care to leave behind positive thoughts from those you do leave behind. I want my loved ones to be left with a sense of peace and hope. The best thing about my legacy is that I am solely living in it now. I AM BUILDING IT, I AM LIVING IT! I don’t want people to remember my name without a positive stamp beside it. By my current accomplishments it is my hope to inspire generations after me and to realize that their legacy is not just their name but their actions as well.
“Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you”
-Shannon L. Alder
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Creative, Versatile, and Passionate about all my crafts, I have been able to establish myself as a successful Master Cosmetologist, Branding Specialist, and Content Creator .. with a deep of other things but these are my main 3.
Savannah State University was my home for Communications which molded me into the conversationalist I am today. PR taught me how to communicate effectively with different demographics of people awhile having the talent to turn every conversation into a persuasive, business, or enlightened one.
Then went onto Empire Beauty School where I obtained my Licensure in Master Cosmetology ( Hair , Skin, and Nails ). My audience became a little more diverse, more older so this only intrigued me more being able to sell my services and grasp an older clientele.
After graduating both I tapped more into marketing. I was no longer in school nor had professors near to send clients my way so it challenged me to come up with creative ways to not only get clientele but retain clientele so thats when I tapped into Social Media Marketing. Flyers and Business cards no longer served me purpose because my clientele became word of mouth which in turn I had to stay on top of everything as it pertained to customer service.
Sometimes I sit back and pat myself on the back because without discipline I wouldn’t have made it this far. This journey I have been on its been me pushing myself to be better than the previous year. I have always had a fear of falling on my face and a fear of being broke but honestly making decisions based off survival kept me afloat.
I take pride in everything I do and partake in things that I felt other business owners lacked in. I know how customers should be treated whether right and wrong. I know the ins and outs of running a business down to the legalities of it but the older I get I feel my passion is just simply watching others grow.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building your audience AUTHENTICALLY is one of the hardest things to do. I run several businesses and use to post everything on one page which in turn made my page seem cluttered and all over the place.
I then went into creating separate instagrams and separate emails so I could be more selective of my audience. I was able to pin point my target audience better and using different marketing tactics depending on the audience.
As a Business Owner you have to realize that having multiple business is wonderful but knowing your target audience and how to reach them is what is going to keep your business running.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Even though I make it look easy, It wasn’t .
GET A JOB TO FUND YOUR BUSINESS! ITS THAT SIMPLE..
Having Small jobs on the side funded my businesses in which those jobs still were relatable to my career choice. If you are an aspiring hairstylist go work as a receptionist in a salon to learn the aspects of the business. I purposely would get jobs relating to my field to not only help fund myself as an entrepreneur but also to learn while I was working.
