We were lucky to catch up with Brittani Risher recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brittani thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I definitely took a risk by starting Sip & Saddle. I was already established in the wedding industry as a licensed aesthetician & makeup artist, so adding on a completely different and non related service was a little scary! I am so thankful that I made the decision to start the business as it’s been such an amazing ride thus far! Being in the wedding industry and being such a vital role in someone’s big day is a great feeling!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Of course! I left the medical field after 8 years to tackle a new career that was a better fit for my family & allowed me to be more present with my children. I started doing makeup services for friends & my aesthetics business grew! One thing I realized after being a part of the wedding industry was the current need for more bartending services in the area. I knew from the jump that I wanted to offer more than just traditional bartending, This is why my company offers lemonade stands, hot cocoa bars, hydration stations, ect! We have something for EVERYONE! To our surprise weddings aren’t the only thing keeping us busy, Corporations started booking us for work related events, we’ve done open houses for realtors, grand openings for large businesses, and even a few bachelorette parties!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I truly think what helped us build our reputation is the relationships we’ve made with other wedding vendors in our area! From the photographers to wedding coordinators we all work together to keep each other busy! I also work with several other local bartenders and we refer clients to each other! Getting out there and getting uncomfortable in order to grow is huge in this field. I was so nervous to attend my first vendor meet up & it was truly the best business decision I ever made!
Any advice for managing a team?
My best advice for managing a team is to “Be the boss you want to Have!” Both my bartenders & assistant makeup artist can attest I’m always there for them and will help in any way I can! Set examples for the expectations you have for your team! On more than one occasion my girls have witnessed me jumping in and helping the wedding coordinations or catering companies even if I had a million things left to do, because it’s important to show compassion and to lend a helping hand to others even if you’re not benefiting from it.
